ROLE: POSITION TITLE VP and Chief Data Officer (CDO)

The Vice President and Chief Data Officer (CDO) is an executive responsible for the organization’s data governance, data quality, data cataloging and lineage, data architecture and modeling, data security and privacy, data management practices and developing our corporate-wide data enablement strategy. The role is to ultimately ensure that data is managed effectively and efficiently, and that it is used to drive business value. This position will report to the Sr Vice President Information Technology.

Some of the key responsibilities of the VP and include:

  • Engaging with a complex ecosystem of data and analytics producers and consumers, both internal and external, across on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments.
  • Establishing a practical, adaptive data governance and management approach through the development of policies and standards; assignment of key data roles and responsibilities; processes and procedures and the appropriate data governance monitoring that aligns with organizational norms and balances the need to manage risk and comply with an evolving regulatory landscape while also enabling innovation and business agility.
  • Ensuring the appropriate data cataloging and lineage through the development of data dictionaries and definitions, taxonomies, metadata repositories and documented data lineage.
  • Optimizing data accessibility, discoverability, interpretability, timeliness, suitability, and other quality dimensions; establishing metrics that measure the success of data-as-a-service.
  • Developing the appropriate data operating model to support business objectives and manage risk while supporting demands for local agility, citizen data science, democratization, and collaboration.
  • Working with key stakeholders across the corporation to develop the appropriate data architecture and modeling through data warehousing, ETL design, data mining and quantitative analysis to best enable the corporate strategy and reduce risk.
  • Ensuring data security and privacy through enabling the appropriate levels of data encryption, access management, data retention and deletion and data auditing.

  • The VP must be proficient in creating, maintaining, and integrating analytical tools, scalable systems and processes across internal departments to enhance data ac.
  • Collaborates with other data leaders to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and develops measurement frameworks to establish data and analytics standards, enabling product teams to accelerate value delivery.
  • Leads data-informed initiatives that align with company profitability and growth goals while ensuring control and compliance.
  • Be a respected thought leader, demonstrating an enterprise mindset across technologies and operations.
  • Attract, onboard, retain, and cultivate skilled experts in data and analytics technologies to enhance business outcomes.
  • Implement effective best-practice governance and data solutions.
  • Influence enterprise-wide adoption of data-centric approaches at the organization.
  • Experience in managing both remote and on-site teams.
  • Responsible for recommending or and enabling new analytical methods to extract insights.
  • The VP should have a clear vision of how data can improve business operations and profitability.
  • Incorporates data into the company’s overall strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Works closely with internal business units including our application solutioning teams, enterprise architecture, IT infrastructure and cloud operations teams and business unit analytics teams to develop governance, strategy and implementation methods.
  • Drives mission-critical data-driven conversations and policies within the enterprise.
  • Stays informed about industry trends to identify key business opportunities.
  • Accountable for budgets, execution of key objectives, and performance measures within their area of responsibility

Education Description

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Advanced degree in mathematics, physics, business, finance, statistics, computer science, quantitative methods, or law is preferred.

Experience

  • Requires minimum five (5) years of management experience with a proven track record of organizational success.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Data and Analytics technologies.
  • Requires minimum ten (10) years of functional work experience in Business Operations, Information Technology, and/or related field.
  • Experience managing business critical functions and/or operations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and understanding of the electric and gas utility operation, or other regulated industry, is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical expertise and results associated with both cloud, and data-center infrastructure and technology is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Required to participate in the organization’s Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
