Our House Café, d.b.a Purple Tree Café, is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Davis, CA that provides community-based employment for people with disabilities and brings people with and without disabilities together through food, music, and art. Our employees make and sell vegan baked goods and beverages at our newly-opened cafe at the UC Davis MIND Institute in Sacramento, at the Davis Farmers Market, and other public and private events in Davis and Sacramento. In collaboration with the Team Davis Singers, we also host the “Hootenanny” series of live music events at Delta of Venus restaurant in downtown Davis.
We are looking for a volunteer with financial experience to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer.
Purple Tree Café has a few standard checking accounts, about 20 employees, few physical assets, standard insurance policies, and a few grants. The Treasurer reports to the Board of Directors and traditionally has been a voting member of the Board. The time commitment is approximately one to three hours per week to complete the responsibilities described below, plus attendance at monthly board meetings and an annual day-long retreat.
The Treasurer’s responsibilities include:
Overseeing the financial health of the organization with the support of the Executive Director and Operations Manager;
Preparing and presenting financial statements and reports for the Directors on a monthly basis and under other circumstances as necessary:
Preparing and presenting an annual report to the Directors, reporting on the organization’s assets, liabilities, revenue, receipts, expenses and disbursements;
Preparing, or arranging for, the Corporation’s annual federal and state tax returns with the assistance of the Executive Director and Operations Manager;
Working with staff and Board on policies and procedures for accounting and other financial controls; and
Advising the Board and the Executive Director about budgeting, potential financial concerns, and possible improvements in operations.
