Position Summary

The Communications Team of the Lycée Français de New York has a core objective of advancing the understanding of our school mission, vision and brand to internal and external constituencies, as well as keeping our own community engaged and excited about the programs and activities taking place at school. The work of the Visual Communications and Design Specialist is interdisciplinary, combining a keen eye for visual storytelling and design with a passion for video content creation. All members of the Communications Team are mission-driven, proactive listeners and trusted advisors to colleagues.


The Visual Communications and Design Specialist reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing. At the Lycée, all employees are committed to the delivery of the School’s Mission, to upholding its Diversity Statement and to supporting the vision of the Head of School and the Board of Trustees. They are expected to provide encouragement, offer positive reinforcement, and show respect for each student and each other.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Communications and working collaboratively with all members of the Communications Team, the Visual Communications and Design Specialist will:

Digital Content Creation:

  • Create multimedia content such as videos, animations, and interactive presentations to support various school initiatives and events.
  • Ensure that the visual content of the school's website is regularly updated, relevant, and aligned with branding guidelines.
  • Develop basic videos that tell compelling stories of the Lycée that resonate with our community and prospective families, and showcase the unique aspects of our school community.


Photography and Videography:

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos of school events, activities, and facilities to showcase the vibrant life of our school community.
  • Edit and retouch photos and videos as needed to ensure professional quality and consistency with the school's visual identity.
  • Organize and maintain a library of visual assets for future use in marketing materials and communications.
  • Coordinate photographers and manage a database of photographs for internal and external use.

Graphic Design:

  • Design visually appealing and engaging graphics for a variety of purposes including presentations, posters, social media posts, event signage, and internal communications.
  • Maintain visual branding guidelines to ensure consistency across all school materials and communications.
  • Coordinate the printing of school-related materials such as certificates, booklets with external printers or using our own in-house printing wide-format printer
  • Occasional management of outside graphic design freelancers for projects where extra support is needed.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the marketing and communications team to brainstorm ideas, provide creative input, and contribute to work of the school.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to gather content and ensure that visual materials accurately represent the school's values and culture.
  • Communicate project timelines, deliverables, and updates effectively to ensure projects are completed on time

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, digital media, or related field
  • Proven experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio showcasing creative and visually appealing work.
  • Experience with photography and videography, including shooting, editing, and retouching.
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).
  • Strong understanding of design principles, typography, and branding.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of web design principles and experience with content management systems (CMS) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of the French language.
  • A commitment to promoting the mission and values of the school.


Annual salary range: $60,000-$65,000, depending on experience
