High School Principal

Job Summary

To serve as the chief curriculum leader and administrative officer of Vista Nueva High School. This position also works in conjunction with San Juan College, acting as the Director for San Juan College East.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • New Mexico Administrative License Level 3B
  • Knowledge of High School Curriculum and Instruction
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of administrative experience
  • Knowledge of current trends in education
  • Knowledge of IDEA laws and regulations
  • The successful applicant will need to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Staff relations, including, but not limited to, the development and use of skills necessary to make positive use of the Instructional Teams, to manage faculty and staff with courtesy and mutual respect, coach and motivate employees, and to build consensus as a means of management;
  • School community leadership qualities, including, but not limited to, the ability to organize and leverage community initiative, communicate effectively, work effectively with local school improvement committees, manage change, resolve conflict and reflect the highest personal values;
  • Educational proficiencies, including, but not limited to, knowledge of curriculum, behavioral management, and instructional techniques, student learning styles, student assessment criteria, school personnel performance, evaluation skills, and family issues; and
  • Administrative skills, including, but not limited to, organizational, fiscal, public policy, and continuous improvement strategies and techniques.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of school office procedures, school district protocol, school board policies, administrative rules and regulations, building and district handbooks, and the school's day-to-day operations.
  • Initiate parental communications as needed
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Superintendent
  • Keep records and prepare reports as required by the Superintendent
  • Work with assessment data and modify curriculum according to needs
  • Assess the needs of the academic program
  • Make recommendations for new positions, transfers, and dismissal of staff to the Superintendent.
  • Assume all responsibilities of curricular and extra-curricular activities
  • Maintain effective school/community relationships
  • Organize the staff and administer the school in ways conducive to sound instruction
  • Direct attendance and attendance record-keeping
  • Provide in-service and other professional development training
  • Initiate staff communication as needed
  • Assign teachers to and monitor duty stations
  • Provide frequent observation and feedback using criteria as established by the district and the high school.
  • Assume responsibility for student daily attendance issues including, tardies, truancy, attendance policy enforcement, student hearings as assigned
  • Assume responsibility for student discipline
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation policies of the school district and notify the proper authorities when repairs or replacements are required to maintain established standards
  • Monitor the grounds and buildings for safety and cleanliness issues
  • Act as the liaison with the local police department
  • Maintain and update Crisis Response manuals
  • Facilitate and Monitor different disaster drills
  • Prepare long-range plans for the needs of the school
  • Prepare and monitor budgets for the school

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license and take a Defensive Driving Course at the District expense if driving a school-owned vehicle. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the District Payroll within the established timeline.

Certificates Licenses

  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license
  • Must possess a current New Mexico Administrators level 3B license

Terms of Employment

  • Appropriate placement on the Salary Schedule
  • 210-day contract

Evaluation

Performance of duties will be evaluated at least annually per Aztec School Board Policy by the Superintendent.

Physical Rating Level

This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
