The World Languages Center (https://www.northeastern.edu/cssh/wlc/) in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seeks applications for a Visiting Lecturer in Spanish.
Responsibilities:
Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses in each semester) and ongoing curricular and pedagogical innovation. Professional development and service are also expected. This is a one-year, non-tenure-track, renewable and benefits-eligible position, with an expected start date of Fall 2024.
This position will support the University’s commitment to innovation in teaching as well as the World Languages Center's vision of developing students' intercultural communicative competence. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.
Qualifications:
A Master's degree is required by the start date, a Ph.D. preferred. A degree in Spanish literature, cultural studies, or linguistics is highly desirable. The successful applicant should be well prepared to teach Spanish language, culture, and film classes at all levels to students from diverse backgrounds, have experience teaching Spanish in remote and/or online formats, and possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Experience teaching beginning- or intermediate-level Portuguese is a plus.
Documents To Submit:
Applicants should submit a CV and letter of interest along with a teaching statement, a model syllabus, recent sets of student evaluations, a diversity and equity statement and three recommendations.
In the diversity statement, please describe how you can support Northeastern’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Describe how your teaching, service, research, and/or leadership (as applicable) have supported the success of students and/or colleagues; and/or describe the impact others have had on you as relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
