Position Summary

The primary focus of the program is to empower youth by teaching safe and healthy relationship skills while engaging parents, influential adults, and the community to shift the attitudes and beliefs regarding intimate partner violence.

The AmeriCorps member will serve as the Violence Prevention Facilitator for Youth for elementary, middle, and high school students in community-based after-school programs, charter schools, and other child-focused venues, as well as the residential shelter, H.A.R.K., and the One Love initiative. The member will conduct one-on-one assessments and education with children on emotional regulation and behavioral issues that arise from witnessing or experiencing domestic violence.

This position will be responsible for administering curriculum at community sites, serving as a liaison between the child-focused site and Hubbard House, developing new site relationships to expand curriculum delivery, and completing all required documentation and reports, coordinating activities of the Community Action Team to promote the Hubbard House vision of "Every Relationship Violence-Free".

Knowledge Required for the Position

  • Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements
  • Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.
  • Upon employment, the member will complete the 30-hour Core Competency training which is required of all direct service volunteers and staff of Florida Certified Domestic Violence centers. This training ensures understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and advocacy.

Supervision

  • Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently
  • The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required

Review

  • The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, complaints from customers, and observation of the member at service.
  • The member independently plans and carries out the projects and selects the approaches and methods to be used in solving problems
  • Completed projects are reviewed very generally to determine that objectives have been met and are in compliance with policies and regulations.

Guidelines

  • Written and oral guides provide specific instructions for doing service
  • Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards, and files of previous projects
