Job Description

The University of Indianapolis Marketing Videographer and Photographer creates engaging images and video content that supports the university’s strategic enrollment and fundraising goals as well as key stakeholders such as schools and departments within the university. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Enrollment Strategy, the person in this position will be part of a talented in-house creative team who helps promote our university.

The ideal candidate is a creative and flexible individual with a good eye who can tell the UIndy story through both moving and still images for multiple audiences on multiple platforms. Videos and photographs created by this individual will be featured in UIndy’s marketing materials in print, website, social media, and paid digital advertising campaigns.

The position will also hire, train, and supervise a student team who assist in creating video and photo content. This position will work outside typical 8:00-4:30 business hours, including some evenings and weekends to capture campus events.

Essential Functions- Videographer

  • Shoots b-roll video and photos on campus and other locations.
  • Video and photo after shooting, including color correction and toning.
  • Ability to create and add lower thirds, captions, and effects to videos that are consistent with the University of Indianapolis brand.
  • Experiments with styles and tech­niques, including the design of graphic elements.
  • Audio editing as needed, suggest or select music for footage.
  • Assists in the digital asset management of video and photo archives.
  • Maintains appropriate licensing rights for use of music and other intellectual property.
  • Collaborates closely with the Marketing team and University partners on strategy for deliverables, interprets creative directives, and implements feedback.
  • Performs work on weekends and evenings when necessary.
  • Sets up and takes down cameras, mi­crophones, lighting, props and other equipment.
  • Selects, cleans, and performs mainte­nance (including some repairs) on equipment when able.
  • Hire, train, and supervise students.

Qualifications- Videographer

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, media arts, multimedia production, photography, or related field preferred
  • Animation skills preferred
  • Portfolio of work demonstrating competence in social media and marketing videography.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive, in-depth knowledge of pre-production/planning, storyboarding, studio and field production, lighting/grip, audio engineering, video composition, and video/image compression for multiple delivery platforms.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with clients, staff, students, and diverse professionals in a positive, collegial
  • Proficient in telling a cohesive story visually, creating complelling and inspiring narratives, and developing concepts that support the university and departmental strategic goals.
  • Physical ability to move and hold recording equip­ment for long periods.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere CC, Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, and Motion graphics technology.
  • Knowledge of ADA compliant regulations.
  • Expert knowledge in lighting especially for indoor shoots, sound recording, and editing.
  • Experience capturing/importing media, organizing raw media, editing footage and sound files, creating and inserting static and motion graphics, closed captioning, adding music/voice over, media management and archiving project media, and posting to YouTube and other social platforms.
  • Up to date with new industry technological advances, software and equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of the latest trends and best practices in successful and measurable audience engagement through multimedia projects
  • A strong eye for detail and ability to work autonomously as well as a team member.
  • Willingness to learn and champion University of Indianapolis values, mission and brand identity.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of higher education.
