Video Editor/Producer

Folience Washington, DC

The Southeast Iowa Union, based in Washington, Iowa, is looking for a video editor and producer to create video segments that will be distributed across the community on digital platforms. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable thinking about how to tell the story, but will also be well-versed in the technical aspects of making it happen. We want someone who is comfortable with shooting and editing video into short packages, and is comfortable envisioning what’s needed for compelling and longer-form community conversations.

Help us grow the streaming video branch of our established business. Produce, shoot and edit video – both live and previously recorded – including live sporting events, “television style” programming and advertising spots meant for viewing on our internet based platforms.

Our ideal candidate enjoys the challenge of building an audience and is passionate about community journalism. You’re comfortable with trailblazing rather than simply executing directions left by the person who had the job before. We want a strong communicator with good planning skills and someone who stays cool under pressure.

We want someone who has good technical chops, and finds themselves comfortable working video switchers, audio, editing and production software as part of the process. We’d like you to understand basic broadcast graphics, and be comfortable voicing as well. As with all media, there will be schedules and deadlines, and we want someone who can plan for and meet deadlines and work within production schedules.

Our ideal candidate isn’t afraid to dip toes into live broadcasts, and is comfortable with the technical needs of doing so. Drone licensure, or other non-traditional news broadcast video techniques are also a bonus.

Our Organization

Our news team is focused on the southeast Iowa communities of Washington, Mount Pleasant and Fairfield and surrounding communities. Our company is employee-owned and has a strong tradition of independence. We’re also affiliated with The Gazette, the state’s second largest media organization. This position is focused in Washington, a town of 7,400-people about 40 minutes south of Iowa City, the home of the University of Iowa. Washington is the county seat. The region is rich with things to do outside of work hours.
