Position: Vice President, Project Development - Community Solar & Distributed Generation (Renewables)

Location: East coast and Midwest US preferred

Sector: Community Solar, Distributed Generation, and C&I Renewable Energy

Package: $180,000 - $220,000 + uncapped bonus + equity

Company: Community Solar (Distributed Generation) IPP (Independent Power Producer) - PE Backed (Private Equity)


Important Note: You must have recent experience in community solar renewables to be considered for this role.


Company Overview

The business is a fast-growing, PE backed IPP that owns and operates community solar assets in a number of states, with active developments across the US and counting.


The Role

The Vice President of Project Development will support the execution of the development team, with a focus on East coast markets. Your primary goal is to lead the origination, development, and closeout of community solar projects across the East coast and midwest (Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts)


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the U.S. community solar space (2-10MW+), with a proven track record in securing Power Purchase Agreements, land, permitting, and interconnection while developing projects through to COD, specifically across the eastern and midwest US.


Core Responsibilities

The role of the Vice President of Development involves the following:


  • Identify market opportunities and secure early land positions for community solar projects.
  • Obtain necessary land use permits, interconnection and offtake agreements, and utility permission to operate.
  • Analyze and understand the legislative and regulatory landscape to develop an effective project origination and development strategy.
  • Engage with industry associations, regulators, and legislators as needed to maintain a healthy development market.
  • Implement a land acquisition strategy to efficiently secure site control in targeted markets.
  • Identify target community solar market opportunities and develop a comprehensive go-to-market strategy, including budget, hiring plan, success metrics, and land acquisition strategy.
  • Lead an efficient, cross-functional team of engineers, developers, agents, and external contractors to take projects from origination through to notice to proceed (NTP).


Required Experience

  • 10+ years in business development and project development, with at least 7 years in the community solar industry.
  • Deep experience in the solar distributed generation power markets. PJM and MISO markets preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring and supporting diverse teams and managing the development of community solar projects.
  • Proven record of developing and implementing growth and community development strategies to drive projects through development and COD.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy regulatory policies and M&A.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering; an MBA is preferred.
