Vice President of Software Engineering

CereTax is seeking an accomplished and strategic-minded VP of Engineering who will provide strategic and technical leadership to our engineering team, ensuring the successful execution of our product roadmap and the delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role involves collaborating closely with the Product Lead to drive innovation, improve processes, and enhance our product offerings. Additionally, the VP of Engineering will be responsible for budgeting, cost management, and working with the Finance team on expense requirements. The VP of Engineering will also be responsible for representing the engineering department in presentations to senior management.


This is a full-time, on-site position in our Alpharetta, GA office.


Responsibilities:

As the VP of Engineering, your role leads and shapes the engineering team within a dynamic and growing company. It will be key to collaborate with a passionate and talented team dedicated to innovation and excellence.


a. Leadership and Management:

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

• Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top engineering talent.

• Establish clear objectives and performance metrics for the engineering team.


b. Product Development:

• Collaborate with the Product Lead to define and prioritize product features and deliverables.

• Ensure the engineering team delivers high-quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions on time and within budget.

• Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.

• Ensure the effective use of cloud computing technologies, with a focus on AWS (Amazon Web Services).


c. Budgeting and Cost Management

• Develop and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring alignment with overall company financial goals.

• Work closely with the Finance team to monitor and control expenses, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

• Analyze financial data to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.


d. Strategic Planning:

• Develop and implement a long-term technical strategy that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives.

• Identify and evaluate new technologies, tools, and processes to enhance productivity and product quality.

• Lead the architectural design and technical roadmap of the company's products.


e. Stakeholder Communication:

• Prepare and deliver presentations on technical progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior management, the Board of Directors, and external investors.

• Present to prospects and clients on technical matters as required.

• Act as a technical advisor to the CEO and other executives, providing insights and recommendations on technology trends and innovations.


f. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with other departments, such as Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support, to ensure alignment on product goals and customer needs.

• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the engineering team and other stakeholders.


Education and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Proven track record of managing and scaling engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong technical background with expertise in .NET technologies; Golang and React is a plus.  

• Expertise in cloud computing and related technologies, particularly AWS (Amazon Web Services).

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

• Experience working with Agile development methodologies.

• Ability to think strategically and execute tactically.

• Detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

• Problem-solving aptitude with the ability to identify issues and propose effective solutions.

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
