Position Description

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and overseeing the hospitality and wellness operations of Sensei’s operating entities, ensuring development, implementation and execution of efficient operations and supporting systems that meet financial expectations and support current and future needs of the organization.

With the General Manager(s) at Sensei Retreats and the Retreat Director(s) at Sensei Hosted Wellness Clubs reporting to this position, they are responsible for the successful operation of the retreats. They mentor, coach and guide the property leaders to deliver exemplary wellness and hospitality services and to develop and implement property-wide strategies that consistently deliver products and services that meet or exceed the needs and expectations of the guests and align with Sensei brand expectations.

In addition, this position will have both the Corporate Centralized Pre-arrival, as well as the Programming Operations Departments reporting to it.

The Vice President of Operations is part of the Corporate Guidance Team.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and implements the strategic direction of the organization’s Retreat and Wellness Club operations, Pre-arrival and Reservation services, as well as Programming operations to drive performance across the brand and ensure business goals are achieved.
  • Leads pre-opening efforts and countdown for any new property coming online.
  • Leads the implementation of new wellness programming, via the Innovation & Improvement Process.
  • Serves as an active member of the Innovation & Improvement Committee.
  • Leads the monitoring of wellness programming, using data to identify areas for improvement and gaps in people, processes, or technology.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in hospitality and wellness operations
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new and/or improved processes, technologies, and systems to streamline operations, in close collaboration with corporate IT and Technology teams.
  • Presents periodic performance reports and metrics to the President & COO and other leadership.
  • Establishes action plans and strategies for underperforming locations and follows up on implementation.
  • Provides direction to General Manager(s)/Retreat Director(s), working with the Vice President and Director(s) of Finance, in the development of annual business plans and capital expenditure plans.
  • Identifies learning and development needs and ensures proper training is developed and delivered, in close collaboration with PeopleOps and Wellness Science.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President of Finance on establishing the annual corporate budget and monthly financial reports.
  • Monitors the implementation and execution of approved plans through correspondence and regular personal visits to the property.
  • Works closely with property leadership to maximize operating metrics to achieve brand and owner objectives, as well as business strategy and initiatives.
  • Supports General Manager(s) and Retreat Director(s) in dealing with Ownership and/or Asset Manager communications and relationships.
  • Provides assistance and direction to General Manager(s)/Retreat Director(s), in diagnosing key metrics such as RevPAR, Turnover, EES (Employee Experience Surveys), etc. recommending actions and following up to measure outcomes.
  • Collaborates closely with other divisions and departments to carry out the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Ensures operations-related P&Ps are established, communicated, and implemented accordingly.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance development feedback to all Direct Reports.
  • Interviews and hires General Managers, Retreat Directors, Retreat Guidance Teams, and Wellness Club leadership.
  • Participates in pro-forma development and reviews for new Retreat or Wellness Club projects.
  • Acts as a mentor to all Direct Reports, responsible for their professional development and career progression, and monitors individual performance through both informal/formal Sensei Development Plans.
  • Is a brand ambassador and models the Sensei culture, vision, mission, and cultural cornerstones (core values) at all times.
  • Ensures all Direct Reports always embrace Sensei Cultural Cornerstones
  • Leadership – Maintain a positive, upbeat role, promote and exemplify Company values and represents departmental objectives and interests to internal and external customers
  • Customer Service – Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner
  • Teamwork - Develop and promote teamwork and cooperation among co-workers
  • Safety – Comply with established safe work practices and attend to all safety-related training provided or made available by the Company
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in hotel management, business administration, or another industry-related field required. Wellness certifications a plus.
  • 10+ years of Hospitality/Wellness experience.
  • At least 5-7 years’ luxury hospitality General Manager or Corporate operational senior leadership experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in or working with wellness and/or spa operations

Required Technical / Other Skills And Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge across all disciplines, with experience in spa/wellness operations
  • Well-developed leadership and mentoring competencies
  • Strong learning agility
  • Experience in Spa or Wellness operations and F&B or Rooms operations
  • Effective relationship management skills (internal and external)
  • Well-developed leadership competencies with a focus on the following:

  • Strategic understanding of People Operations and Sales & Marketing
  • Familiar and comfortable with technology and adept in learning the basics in each software platform utilized in Sensei Operations such as Microsoft Office, Teams, Opera, Spa software, POS, Applicant Tracking Systems, etc.
  • Practices confidentiality regarding all Executive, HR (Human Resources), legal, and ownership related matters
