About the Company:

Macdonald and Company are partnering with a leading real estate developer who is looking to establish a new multifamily platform. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Construction to start a new in-house construction division, enabling vertical integration. This division will kick off with 4-5 parcels of land that are already owned and ready for development.


Job Overview:

The Head of Construction will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of our new in-house construction division. This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of multifamily construction, project management, and team building. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully delivering multifamily projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Division Establishment and Strategy:

  • Develop a comprehensive plan to establish the in-house construction division, including setting goals, timelines, and budget requirements.
  • Create and implement strategic initiatives to ensure the division's long-term success and alignment with the company's overall goals.
  • Identify and source necessary resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of all construction projects.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Implement effective project management processes and tools to track progress, manage risks, and resolve issues.

Team Leadership:

  • Recruit, hire, and train a high-performing construction team, including project managers, Superintendents and Accounting.
  • Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and support to the construction team.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce quality control standards and safety protocols across all construction sites.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety.

Budget and Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the division's budget, including cost estimation, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Negotiate contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement and resource allocation.
  • Monitor and control project costs to maximize profitability and minimize financial risk.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, engineers, developers, and investors.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and ensure alignment with project goals.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent project experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Procore.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P-6, Microsoft Project, Hand Drawn Schedules, planning sheets, Bluebeam, Adobe, colored pencils, markers, and paper drawings.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
  • Familiarity with LEED principles.
  • Ability to multitask and handle competing priorities while maintaining excellent customer relations.
  • Business judgment and understanding of the balance between budget and construction processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage the details necessary for successful construction.
  • Judgment to appropriately escalate issues up the chain of command.
  • Excellent management skills to effectively oversee subcontractor performance to ensure high quality.
