Aypa Power, a Blackstone portfolio company, is a leading developer, owner and operator of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable projects that power our communities and cities. Our mission is to responsibly decarbonize the grid and make North American energy markets more affordable, sustainable, and efficient. We have been at the forefront of energy storage development since our first energy storage project came online in 2018. As a leader in our industry, we now have over 22 GW of utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in development, and 33 projects in operation or construction across North America.



The Vice President of Health, Safety, Environment, & Quality (HSEQ) plays a critical role in strategically leading the development and execution of our comprehensive HSEQ programs. This position is responsible for establishing and promoting a robust safety culture and ensuring the strategic alignment of HSEQ initiatives with corporate objectives across all levels of Aypa’s operations in North America.



Responsibilities:


Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive HSEQ strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives.
  • Lead the HSEQ team, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and compliance with regulatory requirements.


Policy Development and Compliance:

  • Establish and uphold HSEQ policies, procedures, and standards to meet local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor HSEQ compliance, reporting on performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present detailed HSEQ reports to the executive team, board of directors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Enforce HSEQ policies and procedures rigorously, addressing non-compliance with decisive actions and remedies.


Risk Management and Operational Excellence:

  • Design and administer robust risk management and mitigation programs to identify and control potential hazards.
  • Implement and oversee QA/QC processes to ensure high standards in project execution and operations.
  • Integrate quality standards throughout all project and operational phases.


Training and Development:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of emergency response and comprehensive training programs.
  • Deliver HSEQ training to all organizational levels to enhance awareness and understanding of best practices.
  • Ensure comprehensive HSEQ training for all employees and contractors, clearly defining their responsibilities.


Continuous Improvement and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to elevate HSEQ performance and minimize incidents.
  • Stay informed of industry best practices, emerging trends, and technological advancements in HSEQ.
  • Conduct incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community organizations.
  • Act as the company’s representative in HSEQ matters with customers, partners, and the public.


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support the organization’s HSEQ objectives.


Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field; advanced degree preferred;
  • 10+ years of strategic leadership experience in HSE management within the renewable energy sector, particularly in utility-scale projects;
  • Expert knowledge of HSE regulations, with a proven track record of implementing strategic initiatives that reduce risk and enhance compliance;
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to drive change and influence safety culture at all organizational levels;
  • Willingness to travel as necessary to lead and support strategic HSE initiatives.


Compensation and Location:

Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience

Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on both individual performance as well as the overall success of the business

Location: Ideal location is the company’s headquarters in Austin, Texas. Other locations will be considered for the right candidate. This role will require travel based on the needs of the business.
