Vice President of Advancement

We are seeking a Vice President of Advancement who will be responsible for cultivating revenue streams and avenues for fundraising and working proactively with the CEO to ensure the vitality and health of the organization's budget and to advance the organization's mission. The Vice President of Advancement is also responsible for building and fostering positive and productive relationships among philanthropic, corporate, and community leaders as well as individual donors vested in supporting and advancing the Trudeau Center's programs and services. In addition, the Vice President of Advancement is responsible for governmental affairs, advocacy, and the development and execution of marketing plans, including strategies to engage with target audiences to enhance the Trudeau brand.

As the Vice President of Advancement, you will be responsible for:

  • Protecting the rights and dignities of individuals with developmental disabilities and extending these rights and dignities to family members or guardians
  • Lead the design and implementation of a strategic development and fundraising strategy that advances the mission, vision and values of the organization.
  • Understand and communicate the charitable mission and program needs of the Trudeau Center to donors, members, and volunteers through letter campaigns, presentations, and newsletters.
  • Research and identify prospective donors/corporate donors; planning and implementing donor appeals.
  • Maintain the integrity of the gift accounting database, assigning appropriate giving codes. Data entry and processing of cash gifts, pledges, and pledge payments.
  • Developing and coordinating the annual calendar of fund development activities.
  • Prepare mailings and appeals, coordinating donor contacts and/or renewal schedules, donor acknowledgements and preparing fund raising materials.
  • Design and maintain systems for soliciting, stewardship, and planned giving.
  • Provided opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving opportunities. Manage general development activities as they relate to cultivation for events.
  • Assist in the design and maintenance of the Development section of the agency's web page, in coloration with the IT department and marketing communications consultant (this includes the development of on-line system for pledges and gifts.
  • Research grant opportunities, write, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports. Tracks all grants electronically; supervise grant writer(s).
  • Draft annual budget projections for fundraising income and expenses; manage a budget for public relations activities.
  • Planning, execution, and evaluation of other development activities of the Trudeau Center to include an annual report, annual giving program, direct mail, memorials, capital campaigns, planned giving, grant solicitation/development etc.
  • Special event/fundraising event planning and execution.
  • Represent the agency publicly on a one-to one basis or in large group meetings.
  • Direct and lead the development of marketing strategy and execution in a manner which supports growth and enhances Trudeau-brand awareness.
  • Manage messaging and positioning for program participation and donor stewardship.
  • Identify and develop high-impact tools such as white papers, brochures, fact sheets, presentations, case studies, business cases, and blog articles.
  • Communicate the creation of innovative marketing content and thought leadership to the organization's staff to ensure the most up to date content is being used.
  • Contribute to agency strategic planning and annual reporting for the organization.
  • Take lead on agency political/governmental affairs with regards to advocacy of the I/Dd movement and funding increases for our programs, serving as a liaison to local state-wide elected officials.
  • Perform all other duties related to the organization's mission, goals and operations.

Education, Experience And Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations, marketing, special events or fundraising.
  • Successful experience in cultivating, managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
  • Knowledge in current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of major gifts and event management.
  • Successful experience ins asking for closing major gifts of $10,000 or more and building and maintaining long term relationships with fundraising constituents such as major donors and corporations.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, and must be astute at cultivating and maintaining relationships while demonstrating a presence and self-confidence.
  • Ability to prioritize big picture ideas and execute into tangible actions.
  • Must be flexible and able to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to present effective and compelling messages to individuals, groups, and the public. Integrity and an ability to maintain confidentially. Extensive knowledge of finance and budgeting.
  • Ability to develop and execute marketing plans, including strategies to engage with target audiences and to enhance the Trudeau brand.
  • Knowledge of grant writing with measurable results.
  • Demonstration of an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for the Trudee Center's Mission.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, a safe driving record, and pass background checks.
