Vice President, Integrated Drug Discovery

Key Result Areas

Role-specific

  • Build and implement the long and short-term strategic plan for the Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) team.
  • Develop and hold overall accountability for the annual operating plan, including portfolio forecasts and associated staffing and infrastructure requirements, timelines, and budgets (including P&L).
  • Partner with Syngene’s commercial unit (business development, marketing) to create and pursue early stage IDD opportunities and transform them into contracted business in order to grow the portfolio by net 10 projects per year.
  • Serve as the chief spokesperson for integrated discovery and early development at Syngene, translating the company science and operating model into attractive proposals for diverse target company sectors including big pharma, biotech, venture capitalists and academia.
  • Responsible for the integration of relevant scientific disciplines (e.g. research informatics, medicinal chemistry, biology, pharmacology, DMPK, and safety assessment) to build a comprehensive therapeutic discovery offering for clients.
  • Drive scientific innovation and organizational development to increase efficiency and effectiveness, as well as lead business process improvement and change initiatives.
  • Achieve financial and non-financial targets for the business, including asset utilization, revenue per employee, and cost per employee.
  • Provide oversight and leadership for process and project delivery, operational excellence, and safety.
  • As the leader of SynVent, build, maintain and develop globally based experts to support the SynVent portfolio of projects.
  • Establish a client satisfaction process for the Syngene SynVent integrated discovery platform.
  • Oversee implementation of standards and audits in partnership with the Quality organization.
  • Create a talent pipeline in succession planning for critical roles by identifying successors for key positions.

As a Leader

  • Champion effective Environment, Occupational Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) practices for the company, and oversee compliance with those practices within the IDD team. Play an active leadership role in monitoring and verifying safety performance through GEMBA walks and other safety-led activities.
  • Foster a corporate culture that promotes an environment, occupational health, safety and sustainability (EHSS) mindset as well as the highest standards of quality, integrity and compliance.

Education and Experience

Education

PhD in life sciences from an internationally reputed university.

Industry Experience

Minimum 20 years of relevant practical and leadership experience in an R&D organization (pharma, biopharma/biotech).

People Leadership Experience

Proven ability in leading, developing and managing direct staff and cross functional teams upwards of 300-400 people in a matrixed, multi-cultural, and multinational environment.

International Exposure And Experience

Current/Prior experience of working in regulated markets would be preferred.
