Main purpose: Reporting to the SVP, Global Data Infrastructure and Engineering, the VP, Data Engineering will lead the Data Engineering team, a key pillar of our Data & Systems department. This role involves managing the building and management of datasets and reports to support client and business requirements, supporting and mentoring SAS Developers, as well as engaging in complex, high-value strategic and insightful projects. You will play a pivotal role in building the right data environment to meet Operational and Client objectives while also thinking strategically to ensure that data is gathered and supplied accurately and in a timely manner.
Key elements:
Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of SAS Data Engineers.
Work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, present solutions, provide accurate and timely reporting.
Define a strategic roadmap, track progress, and manage stakeholder expectations.
Maintain existing production environment ensuring consistent and reliable workflows.
Review production environment for potential efficiency enhancements.
Update and maintain system and procedural documentation.
Apply PCA methodology and enforce department and company standards.
Escalate issues related to data, strategy, reporting or systems to relevant internal parties, or by partnering directly with external clients.
Required Qualifications / Experience
Demonstrable experience in data, analytics, or data science roles at leadership positions.
Excellent technical background in Data
3+ years people management experience
SAS and SQL experience desirable.
Practical, outcomes-focused, and driven to have a positive impact on teams.
Sharp business judgment with the ability to distill complex client requirements into actionable recommendations.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders.
Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations.
Strong design and development experience
Willingness to pick up new skills and technology.
Overall Responsibilities/Key Tasks:
Oversee the design and delivery of projects within the Data Engineering team.
Extracting, validating, loading, documenting, and managing data for different areas of the business and other projects.
Responding in a timely manner to changing priorities; adapting and adjusting plans as required.
Manage direct reports to ensure that performance and goals are aligned with both the business and department
Communicate company and strategic department objectives to the team.
Accountable for recruiting and building a high performing team of data engineers.
Lead data engineering strategy on documentation, processes, and governance
Standardize the Data Engineering function within Phillips & Cohen Associates to continually improve data delivery.
Provide data engineering expertise and direction in partnership with the SMEs within the Data and Systems department to build a data architecture that drives impact and insight.
Maintain, or enhance, current processes and controls which prevent customer and client detriment during the collections cycle.
