We are looking for an experienced real estate thought leader to advise and grow our land development, home building, and rental housing research membership and consulting clients and supervise our small team in Houston.


We need a leader who can analyze and articulate Houston’s housing demand and supply factors to our clients, who run significant housing development and investment businesses in Houston. The leader will service our research clients and generate additional research and consulting revenue opportunities. The leader will be supported by our large research and consulting teams nationally. Research or consulting expertise, but not both, are required. Knowledge of the housing sector is necessary.


Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, autonomous thought leader and exceptional manager who will be proud to represent the John Burns culture/ brand and thrive in a fast-paced environment.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Business Development: Through demonstrated knowledge, you will generate research memberships and consulting studies with homebuilders, rental home and apartment developers, land developers, capital sources, the public sector, and other key clients. Ideally, you can bring a client Rolodex in on day one.
  • Client Interaction: Engage consistently and deeply with current and prospective clients and industry professionals through in-person meetings, speaking at industry events, and strategic follow-up via email/ phone.
  • Thought leadership: This person will represent our firm at key internal and external industry events and engage with various media sources to build our brand. Building relationships with local publications or relevant organizations is important. Our leader will keep a pulse on real estate trends and publish thought leadership via relevant social channels and in our publications.
  • Project management: Oversee the successful delivery of consulting projects or research reports, ensuring quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction. Be willing to utilize unique technology platforms (such as AI) to create outstanding deliverables.
  • Deliverables: Contribute to, review, and teach the team to produce high-quality written analyses and visually compelling reports with data tables, graphs, and charts.
  • Financial management: Set and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure profitability.
  • People management: Recruit, train, and retain top talent. Develop succession plans and build leaders who could one day be you. Be a culture carrier for the team and promote John Burns's core values. Routinely engage with the team via 1:1s to ensure project deadlines are met and any team hurdles are problem-solved. Build a strong rapport with team members.


Education/Certification:


  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in real estate, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred.


Requirements:


  • Minimum eight years of residential real estate market research experience, analysis, and fieldwork or equivalent years of extensive industry‐related expertise that is transferable to this position.
  • Advanced software skills: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Organized, reliable, trustworthy, dedicated individual
  • The candidate must be in the Houston market.
