Vice President, Commercial Underwriting

A prominent legal finance company, Burford Capital, has exclusively engaged Lateral Link to appoint a Vice President of Commercial Underwriting. The organization is an experienced provider of commercial finance to the legal sector with a core expertise in identifying and optimizing the value of legal assets for companies and law firms.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years of wide-ranging commercial litigation experience from a first-rate US law firm (AmLaw 50 or elite litigation boutique), ideally with federal clerkship experience
• 2+ years of commercial business experience outside of the law firm, either as in-house lawyer or in a non-legal role, such as consulting, investment banking, private equity or another finance role. This experience could be prior to or after law school.
• Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction

• a thoughtful litigator with an intuitive sense of the merit, value and risks of litigation;
• numerate and deal-savvy, with the ability to price risk and explain (both internally and externally) the value of a deal;
• commercial and financial acumen and experience
• a team player who can work collegially with all members of the underwriting and business development teams across global offices;
• a good communicator and out-going, capable of participating in panels, conferences, and other client-facing business development opportunities; and
• ambitious and ready to work in a fast-paced environment where both your legal skills and financial acumen will be fully utilized.

Other Requirements

• Some amount of travel (<10%) may be required

The total compensation for this role is $400,000 - $500,000 commensurate with experience.
