The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) will serve as a liaison between the medical staff and information systems team and will partner with the CIO in the continued advancement of information technology into hospital and ambulatory practice settings to promote the highest possible quality, safety, and evidence-based patient care. This position will have responsibility for physician engagement, adoption, standardization and optimization of clinical systems across the continuum of patient care. The CMIO will provide leadership for the adoption, and optimization of health information systems that support patient care and advance clinical quality throughout Cone Health. The CMIO will review proposed health information technology initiatives in terms of their impact on clinicians in all venues of care, working closely with ITS leadership, Triad HealthCare Network (THN) leaders, clinicians, and other key stakeholders, while being sensitive to organizational priorities and fiscal impacts. The CMIO will be a skilled healthcare professional who has experience in a complex medical environment or health system through the continuous incorporation of best clinical evidence to support strategic initiatives such as HITECH Meaningful Use, Accountable Care Organizations and Clinical Integrated Networks, Clinical Decision Support, Clinical and Quality Analytics, Provider Clinical Practice Review and Optimization, Health Information Exchanges, Population Health Management, Patient Centered Medical Home, and Digital health.
The position will report to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the Information and Technology Services (ITS) department.
This is a hybrid role, requiring regular (weekly) onsite work.
Promotes cost-effective medical care of the highest quality, patient satisfaction, and clinician provider/staff satisfaction throughout Cone Health by facilitating the efficient use of information technology
Collaborates with clinical leaders and ITS to introduce clinical transformation technologies. Advises senior leadership on health informatics and policy making within the organization
Participates as a member of IS leadership and steering teams to represent the needs and requirements of the provider community
Serves as an advocate of health system leadership in promoting the use of information technology in the clinical setting for integrating care across clinical venues, leveraging electronic health records, other clinical systems, health information exchange, data and analytics and emerging innovative technologies
CLINICAL SYSTEMS AND WORKFLOWS
Leads efforts to address physician burnout & EHR dissatisfaction through optimization of EHR functionality and usability
Supports clinical initiatives to meet Meaningful Use, ACO and other system-wide requirements
Builds relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, medical records professionals and other patient care providers to develop an understanding of their workflow and facilitate the development and use of the clinical information systems
Reviews medical informatics trends, experiences and approaches, develops strategies, and assists in the development of strategic plans for clinical systems as part of the ITS strategy
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Works in partnership with ITS teams to translate clinician requirements for new and enhanced clinical systems.
Develops understanding of physician needs and builds relationships with physicians to gain support for information technology initiatives. Acts as a liaison and works closely with physicians to relay healthcare IT strategic plans and direction.
Leads and/or provides strategic input across health system initiatives such as Digital Health, Value based care
Management Functions
Serves as a member of steering committees responsible for patient safety, quality improvement, and operational effectiveness
Participates in community-based initiatives, such as THN
Demonstrates high level of responsiveness to users’ needs, including training and ongoing support, to assure widespread provider support and use of the information systems Qualifications:
EDUCATION:REQUIRED:
MD, DO or Master’s degree in Medical Informatics, Information Systems, Business Administration or related field.
EXPERIENCE:REQUIRED:
Minimum Of 5 Years Experience In Medical Informatics
Minimum of 5 years managing or directing clinical information teams
Preferred
Experience implementing and using Epic
Licensure/Certification/Registry/Listing
PREFERRED:
Board certification in Clinical Informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine or the American Board of Pathology
Current board certification from a specialty board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties or the American Osteopathic Association
