Job Opportunity: Vice President, Business Unit Leader
Location: Houston, TX
I'm seeking a Vice President (VP) to serve as the Business Unit Leader (BUL) for the Houston office of a top commercial construction company. The VP will manage project teams, ensuring exceptional client results and profitability. Responsibilities include identifying project opportunities, developing winning strategies, and overseeing project execution from start to finish. This role reports to an Executive Vice President.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize safety, ensuring the business unit’s safety measures and protocols comply with OSHA standards and prevent emergencies or recordable incidents.
- Develop long-term strategic plans to build and maintain relationships with current and future clients.
- Leverage a pipeline of work for new and existing clients, creating consistent opportunities locally and nationally.
- Act as the executive sponsor and approver for all pursuits, ensuring fair awarding practices and supplier diversity.
- Document and communicate all risk-related issues and resolve subcontractor disputes.
- Perform site walks to ensure milestones are met and review all health checks to address any challenges.
- Establish and achieve revenue and profit goals, ensuring the accuracy and health of the business unit’s finances.
- Attract and recruit top, diverse talent, support career growth opportunities, and develop a business unit succession plan.
- Lead by example, encouraging engagement and transparency to create an inclusive and positive work environment.
- Leverage the company’s strengths to position for success and identify competitive advantages in the market.
- Model community contribution and represent the company in outreach efforts, while serving on the internal executive committee.
Qualifications:
- A four-year degree from an accredited university with a concentration in construction, engineering, or business is strongly preferred. Additional work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in the local Houston market is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with software systems such as Procore, Microsoft Project, SureTrak, Primavera 6, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Bluebeam, and JD Edwards.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- Strong business communication skills, including writing and verbal presentation.
