Job Overview

The Corporate Controller oversees all accounting, financial reporting, and financial compliance processes, staff, and systems, and assures the timely delivery of financial information to all internal and external corporate stakeholders. Marchex is an international (operations in both US and Canada), publicly traded company in the conversation intelligence and data analytics sector; therefore, the Corporate Controller must ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) using the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) filing system. Other key duties include administering the internal control environment, developing financial policies, managing budgets, and coordinating audits. Additionally, the Corporate Controller selects, develops, and retains team members to drive the success of the department, and collaborates with executive leadership to make informed financial decisions.

Team

The Corporate Controller both directly and indirectly manages a team of approximately 8 team members, to include AR and AP Specialists, Payroll Specialists, Accountants, and Managers of Revenue and Financial Reporting.

Outline Of Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial closing (monthly, quarterly and annual basis).
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and statements of equity.
  • Seamlessly work with Financial Reporting Manager to prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, to include analysis in support of communication to the company’s executive leadership and Board of Directors, in compliance with US GAAP accounting standards and SEC regulations.
  • Oversee the monthly reconciliation and analysis of all general ledger accounts (balance sheet and income statement), ensuring compliance with US GAAP accounting standards.
  • Analyze financial data and transactions to identify anomalies and proactively resolve any errors found.
  • Develop and provide insightful and timely financial analyses of business operations and opportunities, spearheading the interpretation of operating results in relation to anticipated results and providing recommendations for improving financial performance.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls (to include processes, systems, practices) to assure compliant and efficient accounting and financial reporting, and to safeguard company assets.
  • Engage and work with internal and external stakeholders – to include financial statement auditors, tax compliance advisors, federal/state/local agencies, customers, vendors, and employees – to process transactions, resolve issues, and make business decisions.

Experience, Skills, And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • CPA required and “Big Four” public accounting experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in a financial leadership role, including previous experience in an SEC environment, and thorough US GAAP expertise.
  • Track record of maintaining high-quality/internal control standards for an organization.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinker with ability to conduct research, perform data analysis and resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team at a high level, but also able and willing to “roll up sleeves” when needed.
  • Is an independent performer and delivers highly efficient and effective work products with minimal oversight and need for correction.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop staff by demonstrating exceptional leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; Proficiency with other financial software highly desired, including Active Disclosure, Microsoft Great Plains and Microsoft Business Central.
  • Effective in written and oral communications.

  • Compensation $165,000 - $200,000+

The compensation range listed above may include base salary and short and/or long-term incentives. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
