The University of Kansas School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a dynamic Vice-Chair of Research at the Associate Professor or Professor level to lead the research initiatives of a vibrant and rapidly growing Department. The Vice-Chair of Research will be responsible for the full spectrum of research activities within the Department. The Vice-Chair will provide leadership, strategic direction and administrative operational oversight of the faculty and trainee clinical, basic, and translational research programs with a focus on the growth and sustainability of the department’s research portfolio. The Vice-Chair of Research will serve as a member of the Department’s Executive Committee.

Required Qualifications:
Education: earned doctoral degree in medicine with specialty and/or subspecialty board certification for obstetrics and gynecology and be eligible for Kansas medical licensure AND/OR hold an earned doctoral degree (PhD) in physiology, reproductive science, cell biology, anatomy, and/or pathology from an accredited institution with emphasis in Women’s Health or Obstetrics and Gynecology related disciplines
Work Experience: 5 years research related experience
Skills:
Familiarity with NIH and other grant funding systems with a proven track record of extramural funding
History of successful programmatic oversight including demonstrated faculty and investigator mentorship
Excellent communication skills, leadership skills and interpersonal skills
Have at least one current NIH/equivalent funded grant that will be funded through the next two years and/or a sustained record of significant grant funding

Stimulate, engage, foster and oversee all levels of faculty, staff, fellows/residents and students interested and/or involved in research in the diverse specialty and subspecialty divisions represented within the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department
Develop a vision for the research initiatives within the Department and its Divisions while refining and executing the research strategic plan in partnership with the Departmental Chair, Vice-Chairs, Division Directors, and Training Program Directors
Promote and enhance research collaboration and the development of team research projects bridging the basic science and clinical activities within and external to our department
Act as the primary liaison to other University Research Administrative units in the School of Medicine and KUMC/UKP administration to identify best practices and additional opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions
Ensure the research objectives and policies of the Department, School, and University are promoted while committing and taking appropriate actions to ensure compliance and maintenance of a safe research environment that is inclusive and free from any form of discrimination or harassment
Meet regularly with departmental administration for financial updates on all research portfolios within the department to make recommendations to the Chair for corrective actions needed to keep the research operation viable and solvent
Chair the Department’s Research Committee, which develops and oversees policies for pilot project funding, bridge funding, and the capital exercise process. The committee’s major goal is to foster the success of faculty by communicating research funding opportunities, offering services such as internal review for projects and grants, setting up mock study sections, and mentoring for junior faculty
Clinical Physician Researchers will be expected to provide clinical service in the area of specialization within the Department as directed by the Chair
Serve as a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Executive Committee
