Overview:

The Senior Veterinary Technician position focuses on animal husbandry, technical procedures, and in vivo study work while ensuring compliance with local, state, federal, and institutional guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining equipment, supplies, and conducting studies in conventional and containment laboratories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute study protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely.
  • Assist with animal husbandry, technical procedures, and laboratory maintenance.
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure the health and welfare of laboratory animals.
  • Conduct in vivo studies, monitor body weights, perform clinical observations, and other tasks.
  • Administer test articles via techniques like oral gavage, intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal dosing.
  • Perform basic tissue and blood collection and in-life monitoring of study animals.
  • Perform study preparation activities, including collection tube labeling and room setup.
  • Handle test articles, oversee sample shipments, and compile raw data and reports with guidance.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment.
  • Maintain accurate lab records/documentation to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Support follow-up checks, treatments, and procedures as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining clean work areas and lab supply inventory.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years of college or relevant experience.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs to the waist and 25 lbs to the shoulder, bend and stoop frequently, and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic lab skills such as pipetting, serial dilutions, and buffer preparation.
  • Proficiency in PC software like Excel and Word.
  • U.S. Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree in Biological Sciences or related field
  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification (ALAT or LAT).
  • Surgical assistant experience.
  • Familiarity with containment laboratory protocols and specialized software (e.g., SharePoint and Provantis).
  • Experience in handling animals, particularly rodents, and non-rodent species.
  • Anesthesia techniques experience is preferred.
