Vehicle/Equipment Repair Tech lll (61035022)

Job Responsibilities

Performs final installation of medium-heavy duty truck bodies to include warning lights, two-way radios, tarp assemblies, agency decals, vehicle number stenciling, and other accessories. Performs complex electric/gas welding. Performs final installation of hydraulic and electrical systems on trucks and equipment to include manufacturing of hydraulic hoses and wiring harnesses.

Assists supervisor with completing final inspections of truck body installations and repairs to ensure work quality for safe and proper operation of equipment. Performs safety inspections for medium-heavy duty truck fabrication/hydraulics/welding area of shop, repairs overhead lights, air lines, and drop cords, shop equipment. Assists supervisor with developing and administering mechanic training materials.

Performs troubleshooting tests and repairs on electrical systems installed on trucks and equipment. Performs diagnostic tests and repairs on diesel and gasoline engine powered equipment and vehicles replacing parts as necessary. Performs auto body and paint repairs to agency vehicles and equipment.

Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed as per DHEC regulations. Containers must be properly labeled. Assists other areas of the Equipment Depot as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Two and one-half (2.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. grasping .This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
