About The Role

We are looking for a hybrid Designer/Engineer to join our UX team. This is a highly impactful role that will elevate the level of fit and finish for one of the most innovative TMS platforms on the market. Our software connects shippers, brokers, and carriers and provides tools and technology to make their lives easier. You are a designer who enjoys writing code, or a developer with strong design skills. You will be a full-time member of the UX team, joining six other Designers. You will split your time between designing and coding. A big part of your job is to bridge the gap between what we design and what goes into production. This role reports to the Senior Manager of User Experience (who reports into Product).

This is a remote position based in the US. The successful candidate will work from home.

What we care about:

  • Taste. You know what good design looks and feels like
  • Self-awareness. You have high emotional intelligence and know your strengths and weaknesses
  • Confidence. You bring a point of view, but know when to compromise
  • Growth mindset. You are always working to level up yourself and those around you
  • Curiosity. You ask good questions, and have compassion for both your colleagues, and the users you are designing for
  • Coding skills. You know your way around an editor, version control, and have a strong command of front-end languages like HTML, CSS, and JS
  • You take delight in working through interface details, design for reuse and consistency, and are well versed in prototyping and visual design principles
  • Attention to quality. You have high standards, but also know when to move fast. You have a strong habit of self-review to catch mistakes and deliver quality
  • You can turn ambiguity into clarity, clarity into shared understanding, and shared understanding into shipped software
  • Communication. You are adept at remote work, async communication, and have strong storytelling and presentation skills
  • Writing. You understand that writing is design and you craft experiences through the use of content design practices and strong UX copy

What you'll do:

  • Participate in UX team meetings and contribute to our culture and process
  • Build an understanding of our customers and users needs and the problems we are prioritizing
  • Work in cross-functional teams with Designers, PMs, and Engineers to define and deliver new features
  • Collaborate with Designers on solutions and make sure their designs can be implemented
  • Be a liaison between Designers and Engineers helping bridge gaps between design and delivery
  • Write and review production code for components and features using AngularJS, Coffee/Type/JavaScript, CSS, SaSS, and HTML
  • Ideate via prototypes in low fidelity, in Figma, or in code and gather feedback from stakeholders, peers, and cross-functional partners
  • Iterate on interactions, animations, and details to deliver exceptional experiences
  • Tackle design and tech debt with a focus on fixing usability and accessibility issues
  • Reduce gaps between our Design System in Figma and what is in production
  • Help test potential solutions with customers and users to reduce the risk of building the wrong thing
  • Participate in design critique, sharing your work and providing thoughtful and constructive feedback on the work of your peers
  • Build relationships, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams distributed across the US and India. Over-communicate, keeping teams aligned and stakeholders, peers, and cross-functional partners informed
  • Challenge Engineers and PMs on decisions that compromise the design or user experience
  • Plan projects, manage your time, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Test completed features to ensure the implementation meets quality standards

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years Designing and building web-based SaaS products
