UTSI Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Fall 2024 (1/3)

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites individuals to apply for up to 3 tenure/tenure-track positions at the ranks of Full, Associate, and Assistant Professor in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. Faculty duties will be at the University of Tennessee Space Institute - a UTK graduate education and research institute located adjacent to the USAF Arnold Engineering and Development Complex in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Responsibilities include teaching primarily graduate and occasionally undergraduate engineering courses, conducting research in engineering, developing robust externally funded research programs, producing archival publications in leading scholarly journals, and proactively serving the community in support of the mission of UT as the state’s land grant university. It is expected that the candidate will develop graduate courses in their area of research to facilitate departmental growth. A Ph.D. is required, at time of the appointment, in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Primary consideration will be given to those with capabilities and interests relevant to aerospace-relevant materials and structures, aerothermodynamics, and high-speed propulsion. The department has an actively growing aerospace and defense research portfolio that is driving the need for expansion of our capabilities. Desirable research areas include, but are not limited to: high-temperature materials and structures, material system simulations, experimental aerothermodynamics, simulations of high-enthalpy flows, and high-speed propulsion-oriented research. However, all outstanding candidates possessing a strong background in fundamental science and engineering relevant to aerospace and/or mechanical engineering will be considered as multiple positions are available and there are many emerging opportunities for collaborative multidisciplinary research. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to contribute to the growing UT Aerospace & Defense portfolio, be capable of engaging with government and industry in research areas beyond basic science, and contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. Additionally, the candidate is expected to be able to work in an environment conforming to International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) requirements.
