CALSTART is hiring a User Experience (UX) Design Intern to work on our Innovative Mobility Initiative. The User Experience (UX) Design Intern the team and reports directly to the Program Manager. Our intern will play an important role in supporting a project focused on design interventions to better support knowledge translation in the transportation sector. There will be a focus on connecting users to their goals and designing resources. This internship will run until September 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension. Qualified candidates can work at least 10 hours per week at a minimum.

What you'll do:

  • Use various frameworks to draw insights from qualitative data.
  • Contribute to design ideas that are informed by insights from datasets.
  • Provide editorial reviews for reports and other outputs.
  • Support community engagement activities.
  • Design low-fidelity prototypes and final products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the table:

  • Completed at least three years of accredited college/university level coursework pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields: UX Design, Graphic Design, or Urban Planning with a strong focus on design and community engagement.
  • Experience in research and report writing with the ability to support the Program Manager with developing presentations.
  • Comfortable using various frameworks to synthesize qualitative data to draw insights.
  • Experience designing virtual workshops.
  • A self-driven and motivated individual who is passionate about clean transportation and research.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to communicate technical information in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Minimum commitment of 10 hrs./week
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Certificate or 2 Years of Experience in: UX Design, Graphic Design, Urban Design, Community Engagement, or other related fields.
  • Collaborative and flexible team player.
  • Experience with client projects through internships, capstone projects, or other opportunities.
  • Experience with transportation projects is a plus.

$18 - $21 an hour

CALSTART values transparency and strives to provide as much information regarding compensation as possible. The complete salary range for this role is $18 - $21 per hour. We determine pay based on several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, internal equity and other factors relevant to the job.
