Job Title: Academic Counselor-Grades 9 and 10

Wage Range: $21.00 - 25.00 DOE

Summary

Assists individuals and provides group educational and vocational guidance services by performing necessary duties as they apply to students in grades 9 and 10 at Arrowhead Christian Academy Upper School.

Models a servant’s heart and promotes an attitude of respect, teamwork and professionalism by speaking well of other faculty and staff members; supports our entire school system-lower school, middle school, upper school; prays for and with other faculty and staff; encourages others in Godly living and excellence; lovingly holds others accountable; actively pursues ways to encourage members of the schools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Provide individual and group assistance to students relative to academic, social, behavioral, vocational or other personal needs.
  • Liaison between students, teachers, and parents in academic concerns.
  • Develop recommendations and interventions for classroom teachers and parents.
  • Assist students in the transition from middle school to high school.
  • Create student class schedules.
  • Approve and process class changes.
  • Keep anecdotal records for students who are showings signs of academic or social problems.
  • Manage summer school program – develop course offerings with the principal, develop registration materials, choose dates, work with registrar in collecting registrations, and manage class sizes.
  • Update and maintain student profiles, including activity lists.
  • Communicate academic information and opportunities to students and families through ParentsWeb, The Weekly Eagle, and Class Announcements
  • Plan and conduct a school college fair (typically in October)
  • Manage SAT and ACT prep programs. Goal is to have one preferred vendor and an on-campus opportunity for students.
  • Manage work permit requests (minimal)
  • Plan and execute the college field trips for 10th graders during the October national PSAT testing day.
  • Advise students regarding the MAP, PSAT, ACT, SAT tests. Assists in proctoring these tests.
  • Interpret test results.
  • Stay current on CA 4-year and/or Community College requirements for high school students.
  • Attend evening academic information meetings as needed.
  • Assist principal in counseling and tracking students (up to 6 times per year) who struggle academically including all phases of Academic Probation.
  • Attend annual counselor conferences/workshops.
  • Assist in supervising Academic Services student assistants.
  • Additional duties as designated by the Director of Academic Services

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. PPS credential preferred

Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
