Minimum Qualifications
Current undergraduate student majoring in engineering or a related discipline (physics, mathematics, applied mathematics), with familiarity with Matlab.
Desired Qualifications
Some experience in coding, using a language such as C++, Matlab, Python or Fortran. Familiarity with operating a linux environment.
Position Purpose
This project is focused on computationally studying how solid particles suspended in a gas settle under gravity, with an interest in characterizing the behavior of how volcanic debris particles settle following an eruption. The specific tasks the student will be engaging in include: running an existing code on OU’s high performance computing cluster, Matilda, post processing results using MATLAB and visualizing results with the software VisIT. In addition, the student will contribute to writing the manuscript that will result from this work.
