We are seeking qualified applicants for embedded tutoring to enhance student success both in and out of the classroom.
Role Summary
Embedded Tutors collaborate closely with instructors to support students by facilitating class activities, leading workshops, conducting group reviews, and providing individual tutoring. They exemplify academic excellence and assist students in understanding course content, improving language skills, and fostering critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities
Attend weekly class meetings as a co-facilitator with instructors to promote student success and community building.
Provide tutoring sessions to enhance students' academic skills in language, reading, and writing.
Serve as a model student, engaging actively in classroom discussions and completing assignments punctually.
Host workshops on language, reading, and writing strategies.
Support students in developing independent learning strategies and study skills.
Introduce students to tutoring benefits, particularly those who may not have had previous opportunities.
Participate in initial and ongoing training sessions as required.
Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the department.
Requirements
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Currently enrolled as a graduate student or hold a Master's degree in a related discipline (e.g., TESOL, Education, Linguistics, English).
Coursework focused on TESOL, Education, Linguistics, and/or English.
Equity-minded with experience in diverse environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education.
Experience tutoring in reading and writing.
Previous work in a writing center, tutoring center, or similar environment.
Additional Details
Hourly Rate: $20.00/hr
Hours: Up to 20 hours per week, schedule TBD
Work Environment: On-site only
