Minimum pay is $26.00/hr; additional compensation will be considered for candidates with higher amounts of experience above the minimum requirements.
The Tree Health Assessor plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of trees across the Estate. This position involves conducting thorough inspections of trees, collecting field data, and assessing various factors such as risk, health, condition, structure, as well as identifying potential insect infestations and diseases. The Tree Health Assessor must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their workmanship and possess in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of modern arboriculture. The Tree Health Assessor will stay up-to-date on all training and certifications concerning Arboriculture and professional development to ensure Biltmore continues to utilize industry best practices. The Tree Health Assessor reports directly to the Arborist Operations Manager and operates within the Arborist Department. This department is responsible for overseeing the overall care of trees on the Estate and provides essential support and assistance to the leadership and the company as a whole.
Schedules can vary, but is generally 6:30am-4:30pm Tues - Friday
Essential Job Duties
Walk/drive areas along the Estate roadways, parking lots, paths, residences, and other guest areas performing ISA level 1, 2, 3 tree assessments. Prescribe appropirate tree work needed to mitigate risks.
Collect tree and site date in the field using a variety of data collection techniques and hardware. Responsible for recording tree health data in the estate approved GIS software and management fo the GIS software.
Identify species and measure tree size, understand tree species typical growth rates and recognize indicators of common diseases and pest infestations.
Communicates regularly and frequently with the Arborist Operations Manager about priorities, job scheduling and status, equipment status, and crew needs.
Makes accident prevention a primary focus of daily work and leads regular and frequent safety meetings.
Maintain and keep track of tools and equipment ensuring that all equipment and keys are properly stored and secured at day's end.
Work with other Estate employees and/or contractors to assess the health of trees prior to, during, and after construction projects.
Makes sure that all equipment and supplies used are properly stored on the truck.
Keeps accurate records fo time and materials used for the job.
Performs housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
High School diploma and Bachelor's or Associates degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science or related field.
A minimum of 5 years arboriculture or related field experience. Additional experience may replace some level of education.
Must have solid tree identification skills and the ability to read maps
Ability to work weekends, evenings, and during emergency situations as required.
Ability to follow policy, procedures, and SOP's
Familiarity with ANSI and departmental safety standards
Experience using GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS, TreeKeeper, etc)
Required Certifications (if any):
ISA Certified Arborist
ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
CPR and first aid training
Valid NC Driver's license
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time; must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach below and overhead.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
Must be able to climb ladder, stairs, and scaffolding as needed.
Ability to safely operate small equipment and machinery and specialized equipment such as tractor and lifts as appropriate.
Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions.
