Work Hours: Days, M-F; Flex Available with teleworking opportunities.
Travel: Occasional travel (overnight possible) may be required to national conferences, research workshops.

As a BSB Methods Engineer (Transportation Engineer Specialist) you will create and update bureau standards and procedures in the Bridges and Structure Bureau (BSB).

As a BSB Methods Engineer (Transportation Engineer Specialist) you will create and update bureau standards and procedures in the Bridges and Structure Bureau (BSB).
Working in a variety of civil engineering capacities such as:
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of the Bridge Bureau Design Manual.
- Coordinating technical training and support for engineers and technicians.
- Participating on various teams making decisions that balance safety, mobility, environmental impacts, cost and long-term maintenance. In addition, serving as a contact for industry representatives to maintain workable and efficient design procedures and specifications.
- Coordinating with other bureaus to integrate design procedures and construction details into standard practices.
- Assist Chief Structural Engineer with developing details and specifications for research projects.
- Knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications as well as the Iowa DOT Standard Specifications for Highway and Bridge Construction.
- Knowledge of current design concepts and principles involving structural analysis of all types of complex highway structures.
- Bridge design experience within the United States strongly preferred.
- Analyzes challenges, defines successful solution alternatives, and proactively solves problems.

- All of the following (a and b):
- Licensure as a professional engineer; and
- Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.
- All of the following (a, b, and c):
- Licensure as a professional engineer; and
- One year of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering; and
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.
