Translation Manager

Summary

Oversees the entire lifecycle of a translation project, from initial planning to final delivery. This includes coordinating with partners and internal business units, establishing timelines, and ensuring that the project stays on track. They are also responsible for managing the translation services provide r. ensuring that they adhere to the project timeline and deliver high-quality translations through the use of a Computer-Assisted Translation tool, such as MemoQ or Trados.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide exceptional customer service to partners and internal business units and beyond. This includes responding to client inquiries, addressing concerns, and ensuring that the client is satisfied with the final product.
  • Develop and submit timely and accurate quotes to business units. This requires a thorough understanding of the project requirements and the ability to accurately estimate the time and resources required.
  • Establish and manage the project budget. This includes tracking expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring that the project stays within budget.
  • Organize and verify project files for final delivery to business units. This includes ensuring that all files are properly formatted, that all translations are complete, and that all files are delivered on time.
  • Ensure that all projects are completed and delivered to business units within the timeline and are subject to rigorous quality assurance. This requires close coordination with the translation team, partners, and internal business units to uphold high-quality standards.
  • Coordinate the team of translators, reviewers, layout designers, etc. and ensure that all deadlines are met. This requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Manage subject matter experts and volunteers as needed. This requires effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • Develop translation strategies regarding, including analysis of the need for additional translation languages.
  • Manage the translation process by contracting with translation services, coordinating linguist selection, preparing items for translation, processing quotes and invoices, contracting and coordinating the local translators for applying formatting, completing quality checks, and publishing translated content .
  • Track progress of translations and follow up as necessary. Provide regular reports on the progress of translations to individual business unit management and IIA Executive management.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and translator guidance for the translation function. Ensures that translators comply with IIA guidelines for translation and translation review. For each language, provide ongoing constructive feedback to service providers regarding the quality of the translation.
  • Oversee the revision of translations as necessary, based on feedback from translators or quality assurance reviewers.
  • Establish mechanisms to prioritize translations given the limited resources, such as the use of a translation management system.
  • Be aware of the product/services pipeline to anticipate translation needs.
  • Manage and develop the translation memory by requiring all translations to be performed using Computer-assisted translation tools such as MemoQ or Trados, ensuring efficient and consistent translation processes across projects.
  • Work with BU in developing business cases for translations, including cost-benefit analysis and return on investment (ROI).
  • Work with the Business Unit (BU) to identify translation opportunities and understand their needs to ensure translations align with business unit goals and overall strategic plan.

Knowledge, Skills & Experinece Required

Proven multi-tasking skills and the ability to work under strict deadlines . Strong organizational skills and a fast learner with the ability to pick up new skills and technologies . Exceptional problem-solving skills and good at interacting with people and the ability to work within a team. Foster good relationships with translators from diverse cultures and time zones and be able to perform well under pressure with the ability to manage multiple projects and translators at the same time. Requires knowledge of various file formats used in translation, such as PDF, XLIFF, Word, Excel, and HTML, and an understanding of how these formats integrate with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools.

Supervisory Responsibilities

There are no supervisory responsibilities. May occasionally provide direction and/or supervision to staff or consultants on a project basis with assistance of Manager, Exam Development & Publication.

Qualifications

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university and three to five years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires over three years of experience in translation project management and/or experience with translation memory software such as MemoQ and Trados. Experience with an international organization would be an asset to The IIA and its global goals.

Language Skills

Excellent English written and oral communication skills are required; attention to detail is essential. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries from partners and internal business units. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Multiple language ability is an asset in any role with The IIA.

COMPUTER SKILLS Intermediate or higher ability to work in a computerized environment with a working knowledge of most Microsoft Office products.
