Job Summary

This position is in the Fire and EMS Department (Fire and EMS), Professional Development Bureau (PBD), Training Division. The mission of the Fire and EMS is to preserve life and promote health and safety through excellent pre-hospital treatment and transportation, fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue activities and homeland security awareness. The incumbent in this role is responsible for serving as an advisor on work that involves all facets of development and evaluation of training programs, which entails identifying needs and mapping out training development plans; developing curriculum using methodology; establishing criteria that includes content course material and aides; making arrangements, as necessary, for conducting the training; and providing guidance, assistance and technical support to management on the solutions to training problems and/or needs.

Duties And Responsibilities

Develops and implements the organizations training programs through a broad range of assignments involving the design and delivery of training and organizational development; operational assessments; course learning objectives; and evaluation of the impact on organization goals and priorities. Identifies and develops drawings on internal government and external industry resources, curricula to meet the needs of the training plan. Works with stakeholders to develop, review, and design curriculum and programs for employees. Monitors training presentations of instructors, comparing material presented, and methods used against established programs of instruction, lesson plans, etc. Monitors programs, projects, operations, or activities, and maintains an awareness of current trends in methodology and techniques of training. Implements training, as directed by mandates and regulatory standards, and expends training initiatives, as needed. Tracks progress on mandated training efforts, as well as outcomes related to training. Designs and develops training syllabus for the assigned programs in modules, which encompasses all aspects of the training material, objectives, goals, etc. Develops techniques and tools for the measurement of the effectiveness of the training provided. Recommends adjustments, modifications, and advisability of further training.

Qualifications And Education

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is primarily performed in an office setting.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under the collective bargaining agreement.

Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday 7:45am-4:15pm

Pay Plan, Series, Grade: CS-1712-13

Promotional Potential: No Known Promotion Potential

Position Designation: This position has been designated as Security-Sensitive. Pursuant to Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations; in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying security-sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests: Criminal background check, Traffic record check, and Consumer credit check (as applicable), Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test, and post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test. As a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of your tenure.
