Topman, Underground

Thalle Construction Co. Inc. (“Thalle”) is seeking an Underground Topman. The Topman will work closely with and support the operations team, interact with a variety of staff at all levels and uphold a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position is located in Red Oak, Texas.

Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC, and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools
• Set grades and elevations and check slopes for conformance to grading elevations using levels or lasers
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and other construction documents
• Lay out pipe routes and connect pipelines
• Install and repair water mains, sanitary sewer mains, sewer services, storm sewer, and utility conduits
• Experience with cast-in-place manhole bases and inlets, precast structures, other drainage structures
• Must be willing to complete manual labor
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and other construction documents
• Conduct work with 100% integrity and professionalism
  
  

Education And/or Work Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not mandatory
• Ability to receive written or oral instructions
• Previous experience as Pipe Layer/Top man
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with field and office personnel
• Must be committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others
  
  

Physical Requirements

• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Work long shifts.
• Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
• Must have good hand-eye coordination, quick reaction times.
• Able to wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots.
• Able to walk moderate distances to reach work area up to 1/2 mile.
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
• Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment drug screen.
