TMA UMBC Shriver Center - TRHT Project

AmeriCorps Baltimore, MD

The Shriver Center’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation (TRHT) Center, one of 10 original centers across the U.S founded in 2018 through initial funding from The American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), envisions a world where these intersectional systems and stories of exclusion and inequity are transformed into just and vibrant settings of equity and belonging. Housed at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), the “Truth” in TRHT extends education activities and resources to increase deeper understanding of these stories of social and structural injustice. The “Racial Healing” in TRHT uses intentional healing circles facilitated by trained leaders to share stories across our diverse human experiences that build intercultural and interracial empathy and understanding and build a shared sense of restored humanity. The “Transformation” in TRHT builds upon these activities to lead deeper cultural change in the narratives, relationships, and policies framing our social settings and structures. This project is a partnership between UMBC and Transform Mid-Atlantic (TMA, www.transformmidatlantic.org)
