As the Blood Bank Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of the blood bank department. This includes managing staff, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, maintaining inventory, and coordinating blood transfusions. You will work closely with physicians, laboratory technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the availability of safe and accurately labeled blood products for transfusions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the blood bank department, including scheduling, training, and performance management of staff
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines, such as AABB and FDA regulations
  • Maintain accurate records of blood inventory and manage the distribution of blood products as needed
  • Coordinate with other departments to collect and process blood samples, perform testing, and ensure timely delivery of results
  • Evaluate and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and safety of blood bank operations
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and revise blood transfusion protocols
  • Participate in the selection and validation of equipment and supplies used in blood bank operations


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a blood bank or transfusion service, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of blood bank operations, including blood typing, cross-matching, and antibody identification
  • Current and valid CLS license issued by the State of California Department of Health
  • Proficient in performing complex laboratory tests and operating laboratory equipment
  • Excellent knowledge of regulatory standards and guidelines for blood banks
  • Solid understanding of quality control principles and experience in implementing quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
