Simpson College is seeking candidates for a Technology Support Specialist position. This position is a member of the Information Technology (IT) and will have a dotted line reporting to Conferences and Events. This position is responsible for managing and maintaining the College’s audio-visual (AV) systems to ensure that classrooms, conference & event spaces, and all related equipment are functional to accommodate educational and entertainment usage.
Specific job duties and responsibilities may include but not be limited to the following:
Perform maintenance checks, troubleshooting, and programming of AV equipment in classrooms and conference & event spaces.
Manage vendor relationships, specify requirements, obtain quotes/bids and participate in meetings related to classroom and conference & event updates.
Maintain and support digital signage on campus.
Prepare and update AV inventories and recommended replacement plan.
Provide sound enhancement and mixing for conferences & events and classrooms as needed.
Assist with live recording, lecture capture, graduation ceremonies and other seminal conferences & events needs.
Manage the Blackbox Theatre audio and lighting design as well as the Hubbell Hall audio design.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 2 years equivalent experience is required.
Required Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of AV platforms deployed throughout the College sufficient to support tier2 or tier3 issues arising on campus.
Ability to be an articulate collaborator that is comfortable speaking the language of the visual arts and can translate the vision of colleagues to assist in the design, construction, and execution of AV projects.
Analytical skills necessary to understand and develop solutions to problems and organize workload according to established priorities.
Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of AV formats and delivery systems, including understanding the capabilities of lighting systems and audio production in a theatre setting.
Some knowledge of Windows and MacIntosh operating systems particularly in the context of media connections and production.
Ability to maintain a current understanding of available AV technologies, methods, installation strategies and technical capabilities.
Interpersonal skills requiring above ordinary courtesy and tact are necessary to communicate effectively with users and vendors both in person and on the telephone.
Working Conditions: Attendance is required, including evenings and weekends as needed per duties and responsibilities. Exposure to outdoors environments in all kinds of weather. Exposure to moderate noise, high voltages, and dust
