Silver Airways is hiring an Apprentice Technician in our Orlando, FL location, The Apprentice Technician assists Aircraft Mechanics and Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Mechanics ensuring the safe and reliable operation of aircraft and GSE by adjusting and replacing parts such as control cables, fuel tanks, spark plugs, tires, batteries and filters, using mechanic's tools; removing inspection plates, cowling, engine covers, floor boards to provide access for inspection and repair.
Day-to-day Responsibilities And Accountability
Clean aircraft, interior and exterior parts and assemblies; inspect and repair cabin interior
Ensure the proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of all toxic, hazardous, and special materials and wastes are in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental protection regulations
Operate and drive motorized and non-motorized equipment
Respond to requests for on-call maintenance after hours on all ground support equipment if needed
Provide trouble-shooting and diagnostic assessment of ground support equipment
Remove malfunctioning ground support equipment from service and assist in diagnosis and repair
Pick-up parts and material required for ground support equipment maintenance and repair
Maintain motor vehicle driver’s license for both air side / non airside in good standing at all times
Replace items and parts when work is completed; disconnects instruments, ignition systems, and fuel and oil lines
Performs routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to mechanics; lifting and holding materials in place during operation; cleaning work areas and machines, tools and equipment
Keep shop and equipment clean and serviceable at all times; report any deficiencies to management
Fuel equipment as necessary with full regard for all safety and environmental requirements
Interact with fellow Team Members, customers, airport staff and authorities in a professional manner
Minimum And Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver's license
Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and fingerprint criminal history check
Technical training for FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate in process
Technical training in automobile/large vehicle maintenance strongly desired
Other technical training – HVAC, electrical systems, motorized vehicles, etc. preferred
Computer literacy and working knowledge general software such as Microsoft Office
Good oral and verbal communication skills
Willing to travel when necessary for training or to assist other stations
