Celi

Technical Co-Founder

Celi Boston, MA

Hi, I'm Ricki Crowley. I want to build cool shit with good people and transcend the transactional nature of today's tech landscape.

My Background:

  • Product Marketing
  • Brown University '13 (Economics, Political Science)
  • Retired professional athlete; US & Italian National Team member
  • Sober

Celi is a one-year-old consumer utility product designed to strengthen your connections with the people who matter most in your life.

Celi knows your friends' most important dates and reminds you of them via email, text, and WhatsApp.

Why? Well:

  • 92% of people have forgotten a birthday
  • 76% have forgotten an important life date
  • 75% have tried and failed to solve this issue with calendars or apps

Calendars fall short because they require users to make a list of important people, ask for their dates, wait for responses, manually add each date, set recurring events, turn on notifications, and manage calendar clutter.

Celi is networked and multi-player, eliminating human error as the point of failure.

Users create their profile, then connect with friends and family. When a connection has a date to celebrate, Celi sends a friendly reminder via text or WhatsApp. Users can also check their dashboard's upcoming feed to see who they'll celebrate next.

Today, Celi has:

  • 500+ users
  • 5% Week over Week growth
  • 0.35 k-factor and viral coefficient
  • 959 events celebrated
  • 2964 connections
  • 50+ user interviews
  • $0 marketing spend
  • Bootstrapped

But what I've described is just Celi 1.0 - our current offering. Next comes Celi 2.0.

Celi 2.0 will transform our platform into the first truly networked social relationship manager, incorporating:

  • Cutting-edge AI technology (obviously)
  • User feedback and data leveraging
  • Robust monetization strategy

While there are many monetization paths, from gifting to offerings, the most interesting is inspired by LinkedIn: Multi-player product with single-player features.

We'll:

  • Employ Product-Led Growth (PLG) and Product-Led Acquisition (PLA)
  • Maintain a freemium model for continued zero-cost user growth
  • Introduce premium, single-player features enhancing user experience

But, I can't do all that alone.

In the context of startup founding team personas, I embody the hustler and hipster roles, with a touch of the hound.

I'm now seeking a technical co-founder – the "hacker" – to complement my skill set, complete Celi's founding team, and spar with.

Honest convos for us to have:

  1. I've bootstrapped Celi with $35,506.75, mostly on developer salary. I prefer not to raise money, but won't continue funding exclusively from my savings. Don't expect a salary, but you're not required to contribute to overhead.
  2. Yes, I believe we would be able to raise a six-figure round if needed.
  3. I'm comfortable with part-time commitment, as I continue to freelance to cover build costs and living expenses.
  4. I'm remote and prefer a remote work environment with occasional in-person meet-ups. I'm super flexible on arrangements.

Closing Note: Because Celi is a live product, I have an important ask for any potential co-founders: Use it.

Create an account. Spend a week with it. All the necessary information, including our blog, is readily available. I want you to develop your own opinion about Celi before we discuss a potential partnership. This approach allows us to respect each other's time and ensures that our conversations are grounded in real experience with the product.
