  • PRIMARY PURPOSE: To facilitate and oversee student success in academics and interpersonal skills by implementing State aligned curriculum, assigning and documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of students, advising of and providing for appropriate and applicable information and resources, being the primary contact and purveyor of information between parent/ guardian and school and providing feedback to students, parent(s)/ guardian(s), and administration.

  • EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:  Possess a current Clear, Standard, Preliminary, Specialist, multiple or single subject, California teaching credential, as required by the State of California and NCLB requirements  Maintain professional competence through consistent participation in regular scheduled staff meetings, professional development day(s), and in self-selected professional growth activities  Identify students’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students attain educational success and address behavioral and learning challenges  Participate in curriculum, assessment and other programs as assigned  Attend IEP and 504 meetings as mandated by law  Work cooperatively with SpEd teachers/staff to coordinate resources for education of students with disabilities  Notify Resource Center staff of accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.  Implement/observe/facilitate accommodations/modifications for students with disabilities.  Facilitate the Student Study Team (SST) process according to the Student Study Team Procedural Manual  Accept all students TK-12  Consistently attend staff meetings and Professional Development Days  Maintain a clear TB test or questionnaire  Obtain clear Criminal Justice Fingerprinting 2018-2019 EXPERIENCE:  Previous successful teaching experience in an independent study program preferred

  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  Knowledge of school policies and procedures which govern the Board, program, outcomes, and curriculum  Knowledge of California State curriculum frameworks as well as effective teaching strategies that ensure students’ learning in required subjects with focus on what is most successful in the independent study setting  Knowledge of student learning styles, inventory techniques and organizational skills  Knowledge of effective teaching strategies to ensure pupil learning in subjects taught  Knowledge of applicable sections of State Education Code and other State publications that apply, such as curriculum frameworks and testing procedures and protocols  Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes and how they should operate in an effective independent study program  Knowledge of technology and computer software applications relative to instruction and administration  Knowledge of school resources including but not limited to material resources, Resource Centers and vendor course instruction  Ability to plan and teach individualized lessons for one-to-one instruction  Ability to understand, accept, and work with individual differences in students, parent(s)/ guardian(s) and fellow staff members  Ability to effectively work with and relate to students with independent education needs and their parent(s)/ guardian(s)  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, parent(s)/ guardian(s), all school staff, vendors, and the public  Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully in the English language both orally and in writing  Ability to meet required schedules and time lines  Ability to maintain detailed records and student folders  Ability to be highly organized  Ability to work independently  Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an appropriate and effective course of action  Ability to learn and use technology and computer software applications efficiently, as appropriate to the work environment  Ability to use tact, patience, and courtesy when dealing with all people  Ability to use a positive, professional demeanor as well as initiative and judgment while discussing problems with students, parent(s)/ guardian(s), staff and the public involving student portfolios, information or performance, school policies or practices while maintaining appropriate confidentiality  Ability to understand and be sensitive to those of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds  Ability to maintain a valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate  Ability to maintain positive professional demeanor and appropriate confidentiality at all times  Possess a California driver’s license and appropriate insurance

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. STUDENT AND INSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

  • a. Contact parents promptly, assess suitability for student needs, explain program details, complete enrollment. b. Follow enrollment procedures diligently. c. Develop student plans, organize agreements, assignments, and work records. d. Provide State Standards-aligned instructional materials. e. Manage student behavior for a conducive learning environment. f. Attend training for IEP compliance updates. g. Order and distribute instructional materials timely, maintain inventory. h. Manage attendance and other administrative tasks on schedule. i. Perform assigned non-instructional duties as per school policies. j. Maintain accurate records of assignments, grades, and agreements. k. Evaluate student work time value personally. l. Report attendance based on progress evaluations. m. Monitor student progress consistently and address challenges. n. Monitor student placement appropriateness for independent study. o. Timely notify and document missing assignments or meetings. p. Maintain accurate roster in Student Information System. q. Submit required documents on time. r. Schedule regular meetings with parents/guardians. s. Meet with students and parents/guardians post-learning period. t. Organize personalized meetings for learning period reviews. u. Communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents/guardians. v. Review and discuss test results promptly with students and parents/guardians. w. Adhere to educational guidelines. x. Notify EL Coordinator of new students needing language support. y. Plan and implement ELD Standards for English Learners collaboratively.
  • 2. CURRICULUM RESPONSIBILITIES a. Determine student needs and develop lesson plans for individual students according to their respective individual requirements and learning styles; implement lesson plans in conformity with school and State curriculum guidelines and standards b. Deliver appropriate curriculum and assignments in a timely manner thereby enabling students to complete work daily and progress in their educational goals. c. Evaluate students’ progress and prepare progress reports to be shared with students, parent(s)/ guardian(s), applicable staff including High School Counselor as appropriate d. Monitor student progress and evaluate student achievement with respect to the learning objectives and California Standards e. Administer individual assessments in accordance with school’s assessment guidelines f. Provide appropriate, timely and best testing materials to parent(s)/ guardian(s)and guide them in using test materials to focus instruction
  • 3. TESTING RESPONSIBILITIES a. Provide students with curriculum and other materials that cover the California State Standards for the student’s grade level in order to prepare them for California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) b. Attend and participate in training for all internal and external assessments. c. Participate as a test examiner for the duration of one complete test site administration or three CAASPP test sessions d. Administer all internal and external assessment test to student(s) that are absent from scheduled assessments e. Administer all necessary testing to all students as required in a timely manner f. Receive, evaluate and discuss all students’ test results with students and parent(s)/ guardian(s); review, evaluation and discussion shall include yearly learning plans and goals, curriculum recommendations, and strategies to prepare the student for future informal and formal assessments as well as educational success
