Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a full time Recirculating AquacultureSystem (RAS) Designer for Innovasea’s Land-Based Aquaculture business. The ideal candidate will be a creative, hands-on professional who is a self-starter and enjoys working in teams. Knowledge of related treatment functionality including tank design, mechanical filtration, bio-filtration, gas management and the application of ozone/UV. The position requires someone who can work with occasional ambiguity, but also possesses the ability to work closely with customers and suppliers to develop engineering requirements. Practical experience is required along with the focus required to create cutting-edge product offerings that help fish farms maximize fish well-being and operational excellence.
Reporting to the Vice President – Integrated Systems, the Systems Designer will be responsible for design and application of our replicable RAS modules.
Primary areas of responsibility include:
Collaborate with clients to define project scope requirements and understand their needs and objectives
Develop technical scope documents (bio-plans, modeling, physical layouts, basis of design, opinion of probable cost) to develop system and equipment requirements to achieve project goals
Design, size and select appropriate solutions and equipment (flow control, mechanical and biological filtration, disinfection, gas management, and system automation) for specific treatment processes and ability to integrate them into a comprehensive system
Develop project price quotations
Oversee project development work of technical team members including engineers and drafters
Coordinate the design of automated control systems for the design
Participate in project design calls or meetings to ensure project is progressing in a timely manner
Develop or oversee development of final project deliverables including final drawing sets, operation and maintenance manuals and similar
Perform site visits as required to perform installation inspections, system and equipment start-up and training
Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to take a project from conception through commissioning
Limited domestic and international travel required
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in land-based aquaculture or water/wastewater filtration designs
Strong understanding of water quality principles in biological systems, including but not limited to solids, biological and chemical filtration processes, as well as gas management
Strong working knowledge of RAS or wastewater filtration components (mechanical and biological filters, UV, ozone, foam fractionation, and SCADA system requirements
Design or engineering experience in a related process field such as wastewater treatment or other application with extensive piping requirements
Demonstrated Project Management skills and experience
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with colleagues and clients
Ability to work across organizational boundaries in a matrix organization
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes and motivate others
Proven ability to meet ambitious project schedules
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Process engineering experience
Proficient in AutoCAD or similar CAD system
Education
B.S in mechanical engineering, aquaculture, agriculture, water filtration or related field.
