Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The System Director, Nursing Outcomes and Experience of Care is responsible for the leadership/coordination of the organizational strategy for improving the patient/family experience and operational excellence at Bon Secours Mercy Health. This position will identify evidence-based best practices, increase standardization, reduce costs, and drive performance across the continuum of care. Additionally, this position is instrumental in developing and implementing a robust and sustainable patient satisfaction improvement strategy to achieve top-box performance in patient satisfaction survey scores as compared to the hospital/health system peer group. This position will work directly with Executive leadership on accountability for the system’s nursing outcomes and experience of care strategy, data management plan and implementation.


Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees system structure and processes required to effectively evaluate nursing workforce, clinical quality, work environment measures to achieve desired system and Nursing key performance indicators (KPI). Effectively utilizes internal and external data to set strategy that drives targeted improvement efforts.
  • Actively contributes to the design of the Bon Secours Mercy Health Service Excellence strategy and agenda with senior leadership. Identifies annual Service initiatives and goals to bolster the Bon Secours Mercy Health patient and/or family centeredness culture.
  • Sets system-wide patient experience strategy.
  • Aligns Patient Experience standards to work across hospitals to develop strategies for a seamless, high quality Bon Secours Mercy Health cross campus experience. Works closely with Chief Nursing Officer and/ or Chief Clinical Officer and hospital leadership to establish and maintain a robust Patient Family Advisory Council to receive patient guidance and enrich the patient/family experience.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of key nursing performance dashboards at the system, market, site and unit level Ex: tableau, Press Ganey, National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators
  • Partners with system, market, and site stakeholders at all levels, such as operations, HR, HRTS, I&T, Quality, Finance and other subject matter experts (SME) to define, capture, evaluate and report outcomes to improve contemporary clinical and nursing practice standards and care delivery processes.
  • This role informs the system shared decision-making process under the guidance of the CNO to advance adoption and integration of best practice evidence to elevate and advance the role of the professional RN and APRN to achieve the highest quality outcomes.
  • Serves as a resource for information concerning Patient Rights and Responsibilities. Supports Patient & Family Relations and CNO/CCO to resolve issues and assure compliance with The Joint Commission and state and federal regulations regarding Patient Rights.
  • Responsible for contracts and budget development, under the guidance of the CNO, related to resources required to support. nursing quality and patient experience of care and ensures full utilization of the available technology platforms and functionality.
  • Responsible for managing the labor budget and performance of assigned direct reports. Provides for the professional development of team members and active succession planning for all roles in director’s scope of responsibility.
  • Serves as industry subject matter expert though engagement in subject-specific collaboratives and professional organizations
  • Facilitates inter professional teams from diverse settings to align people, process, and technology, to drive evidence-based improvements in care delivery
  • This role requires competency in clinical care delivery, clinical processes, research and evaluation, business operations, current and emerging regulatory requirements, federal mandates, and national standards related to nursing practice across care delivery settings


Licensing/Certification

Current RN License in the state in which they are working or covered by compact (required)


Education

Masters in Nursing Science or related field (required)

Doctorate of Nursing Practice (preferred)
