Position Summary: The System Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure, including desktops, servers, networked systems, and security. This role ensures the smooth operation of IT systems, supports end-users, and handles various technical tasks to ensure optimal performance and security compliance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conduct system-level testing of core software images to validate performance according to approved specifications.
  • Manage networked print queues and handle Active Directory (AD) management, including account management, AD group management, Exchange Public Folder management, and Group Policy management.
  • Administer Linux systems, including providing guidance on standard configurations and troubleshooting steps to resolve system and application issues.
  • Administer Linux management solutions (e.g., Puppet).
  • Utilize KACE and JAMF for desktop system management, including antivirus and other security agent endpoint management.
  • Ensure all desktops, laptops, and similar devices comply with federal policies, including encryption using FIPS 140-2 validated encryption.
  • Manage the configuration and deployment of desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, printers, monitors, portable data storage devices, and other peripherals.
  • Provide security remediation for systems by identifying, tracking, and resolving security vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure systems are fully patched and have current, up-to-date antivirus software installed and configured according to policies.
  • Troubleshoot and fix security vulnerabilities identified by scanning tools and document actions and results in ticketing systems.
  • Identify, diagnose, and remediate malware and other cybersecurity issues, documenting details in ticketing systems.
  • Provide in-person, remote control, over-the-phone, and automated IT support to all computers, peripherals, mobile devices, and workstations.
  • Establish and follow an escalation SOP for all tickets, accurately documenting incidents and resolutions in the IT Service Management System.
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting and support guides, reviewing them quarterly.
  • Establish and maintain good customer relations with all customers, managers, administrators, vendors, and other service providers.
  • Make technical presentations to customers/peers and create written and graphic materials for end-user communications.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Provide support for conference rooms and virtual meetings, maintaining infrastructure based on industry best practices.
  • Support virtual conferences using tools such as Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom for Government.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in system administration or related IT support roles.
  • Proficient in managing Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of network administration and Active Directory.
  • Experience with endpoint management tools (e.g., KACE, JAMF).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) are preferred.

Compensation And Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $86,675 to $120,125 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
