Job Summary

The System Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining Hill College's computer systems, servers, and related infrastructure. This role ensures the stability, security, and optimal performance of all IT infrastructure to support the academic and administrative functions of the college. The System Administrator will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to provide technical support and implement new technologies that enhance the learning environment.

Minimum Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field

Minimum Required Experience

  • Three to five years of system administration experience, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position.

  • Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role.
  • Strong Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery.

Essential Job Functions

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware.
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and server infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of critical systems and services.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect data and IT infrastructure.
  • Perform regular security monitoring and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and institutional policies.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner.
  • Manage and respond to help desk tickets and service requests.
  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to safeguard critical data.
  • Conduct regular backups and test restore procedures.
  • Plan and execute IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new implementations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security incidents, and project progress.
  • Provide training and support to end-users as needed

Other Information

  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required.
  • Some travel required to other Hill College locations.
  • Security sensitive position.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s license

Physical Requirements

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
