SY 24-25 5th-7th Grade School Special Education Instructor at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RI
TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a 5th-7th grade Special Education Instructor. The ideal candidate recognizes and celebrates the intelligence of each student, regardless of neurodivergence, and consistently holds students to 5th-7th Grade standards through a culturally responsive pedagogical framework.
TAPA's anti-oppression creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPA's student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is an organizational priority for TAPA to hire staff members who have cultural commonalities with our students and families.
The 5th-7th Grade Special Education Instructor offers push-in and pull-out services in Math, Reading, Writing, and Executive Functioning. Special Educators work closely with General Ed teachers to design lesson plans that are accessible to all students and implement best practices in differentiating instruction. Special Educators should also be prepared to write IEP's, communicate regularly with families, and lead IEP and 504 meetings.
At TAPA, subjects are taught utilizing an arts-integrated curriculum aligned with the Common Core Standards. At TAPA, the arts are deeply embedded into the core of interdisciplinary learning. TAPA prepares students to successfully meet or exceed Rhode Island's graduation requirements and perform at (or above) grade level on all state and local assessments. TAPA meets each student's individual academic needs using assessment data and continuous feedback while providing clear academic, social, and artistic expectations.
At its core, TAPA is a student-centered caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Inclusion, equity, social justice, and diversity frameworks are core components of every course. Racial and ethnic minorities and individuals with disabilities, as well as candidates from diverse backgrounds and with diverse experiences, particularly related to social justice education and/or initiatives, are strongly encouraged to apply.
