Supplier Quality Engineer

As a Supplier Quality Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will manage our component supply base to ensure that our suppliers are delivering high-quality products to our assembly operations for both our Spot and Stretch robots. Every day, you will collaborate with our Manufacturing team to validate new suppliers, identify productivity and quality improvement opportunities, and work with these suppliers to identify root cause issues and implement corrective actions. Your role will play a key part on Boston Dynamics’ Manufacturing team as we continue to design and manufacture the most advanced robots on Earth!

Day To Day Activities

  • Ensure the quality of purchased components through an established quality management system
  • Validate new suppliers and participate in the source selection process
  • Visit and audit supplier facilities on a regular basis to review manufacturing processes, quality records, etc.
  • Coordinate with internal manufacturing partners to troubleshoot and action supplier issues. Evaluate risk of defect and prioritize activities accordingly.
  • Conduct quality review meetings with external suppliers and design engineering groups
  • Provide support to design engineering teams to identify manufacturability and quality control issues, and modification to design documentation needed to increase supplier capability.
  • Monitor field service repairs and warranty returns, and reduce recurrence in the supply base with root cause and corrective action activities
  • Create and maintain policies and quality assurance documents to be implemented at our suppliers
  • Qualify part production processes with PPAP tools and methodologies
  • Develop and implement quality inspection tools. Identify and implement improvements in measuring methods where appropriate.
  • Assess supplier production control and quality programs, identify shortfalls to expectation, and directly work corrective action.
  • Identify areas of improvement in internal quality processes to ensure clear requirements and deliverables are attained in supplier activities

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years experience in manufacturing quality functions in an ISO 9001 environment, manufacturing a wide range of components including, but not limited to, PCBA’s, over-molded wire harnesses, motors, and sensing devices
  • Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting and identification of potential root causes to defects and detection misses in an SMT environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and convert them into the quality control plans
  • Ability to understand and implement Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Experience with hands-on inspections
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt

Nice To Have Skills

  • ASQ Certified Auditor
  • QMS experience IATF:16949 (formerly ISO TS/16949), AS9100, or ISO13485

Travel

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
