Supervisor of School Counseling

Working from one of our Family Service Centers, located in Pennsylvania, the Supervisor of School Counselors will provide leadership, supervision, and general oversight for the activities and operations of the school counseling staff. The Supervisor of School Counselors works with parents, Learners, support staff, certificated staff and administrators, and other professionals to run an effective program of supports for learners. This position is responsible for operating and executing all tasks and leading staff while maintaining the overall objective and goal of CCA’s mission/vision/values.

This individual will operate in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations and school policies and guidelines and ensure that all staff working with learners are being held to that standard. This position reports to the Director of School Counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as supervisor for school counselors based on direction from the Director of School Counseling.
  • Holds monthly supervision meetings with each of the school counselor they are supervising.
  • Responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the school counselors, set the direction and hold counseling staff accountable to overall school counseling goals and priorities as well as to ensure alignment of these goals with CCA mission, vision, and values.
  • Responsible for the performance of the counseling functions for the School Counselors and the School Counselor Supervisors, including completion of end-of-year evaluations.
  • Attends monthly department meetings with school counselors and the Director of School Counseling.
  • Attends meetings with grade-span principals (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) and Provosts to discuss the school counseling department needs and initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director and Principals on ensuring the course selection process and timeline are completed.
  • Ensures all school counselors are enrolling learners with accurate records from sending school districts.
  • Coordinates communication with the school counselors and outside educational agencies and student placements when appropriate, e.g. Hospital placements for learners, etc.
  • Plan for, direct, and support school counselors by developing, coordinating and ensuring implementation of effective system-wide counseling services, including, but not limited to; instructional support services, dropout prevention, crisis intervention, child abuse and neglect reporting, and Student Assistance Program services.
  • Serve as part of the interview team to make recommendation for hiring of school counselors.
  • Consult and collaborate with federal, state, and local officials, public and private partners, and community members to improve CCA’s school counseling program.
  • Explore and recommend innovative ways of educating and supporting learners in an online environment so staff can provide programming that will lead to the highest probability of academic and social-emotional success for learners.
  • Maintain good public relations and constantly strive to improve school and community relations through daily contacts with school staff, parents, learners, and other members of the community.
  • Participate in the implementation and refinement of staff recruiting, retention, professional development, and evaluation practices.
  • Ensure that the school counseling department is appropriately and effectively staffed with certificated/qualified professionals and staff; supervise assigned staff; and, ensure proper utilization of all staff.
  • Provide the Director of School Counseling with regular written and verbal reports and updates, as well as maintaining a high level of communication with other appropriate CCA staff.
  • Address learner problems escalated by caretakers, learning coaches, administrators, teachers, or other staff or persons.
  • Serve as a site administrator for testing sites including Work Keys and ASVAB.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This position requires the individual to report full time to a family service center.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations, as needed.

Education And Experience

  • Master’s Degree in School Counseling OR Master’s Degree in School Administration
  • Pennsylvania Teaching or School Counseling Certification

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in school supervisory position/administration.
  • Minimum of 5 years school counseling or teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Valid PA Driver’s License
  • Appropriate Automobile Insurance Coverage
