Supervisor Laboratory Shift
Overview: Responsible for the daily operations of the department to ensure the quality and efficiency of patient testing and effective flow of care. Provides leadership within the laboratory department and all other hospital departments. Assumes leadership role in problem solving and resolution, interpretation and enforcement of policies, and compliance of standards.

Responsibilities
Actively participates in the implementation of process changes and ensures that departmental and organizational goals are met or exceeded.
Completes required annual competencies for test systems by specified due date. Ensures completion of annual competencies of staff by due date. Provides remediation and training to maintain competency.
Directs and monitors daily operation of the laboratory activities and staff to ensure quality and production standards are met consistently. Rounds in department and with staff daily. Ensures appropriate response and follow up on customer services issues. Identifies area of improvement.
Ensures staff adherence with all regulatory, safety, and corporate compliance requirements.
Ensures the performance of quality control and quality assurance to maintain effective operation of instrumentation and test systems.
Manages staffing levels and supply inventory. Ensures appropriate use of staffing and supply resources within departmental budget.
Performs all processes associated with testing of laboratory specimens (pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical) on test systems according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
Performs human resource and payroll functions including staffing plans, performance evaluations, coaching/counseling, and payroll timekeeping.
Provides guidance and assistance to staff on procedures, troubleshooting and problem solving. Provides training of new staff and retraining of current staff as needed. Assists staff in development of skill levels.
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.
OR
Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science with a minimum of 60 semester hours specifically including, 6 hours of Chemistry, 6 hours of Biology and 12 additional hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology, or medical Laboratory Technology. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer.
OR
a "Diploma" in Medical Technology, obtained prior to April 24, 1995, may be considered. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer.
Preferred - Bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science.
A combination of education and experience for employees hired prior to 1/1/16 will be considered.
EXPERIENCE:Required - One year experience in a high complexity laboratory in designated specialty or subspecialty.
Preferred - Blood bank experience. One to two years supervisory or leadership experience.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:REQUIRED:
Certification From One Of The Following
ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) certification - Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist
NCA (National Certification Agency) certification - Clinical Laboratory Scientist
AMT (American Medical Technologist) certification - Medical Technologist
HEW (Health, Education, and Welfare) certification - Medical Technologist
Preferred
ASCP certification
