Supervisor, Curriculum & Specialized Instruction

The Supervisor, Curriculum & Specialized Instruction provides leadership to ensure that the curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development practices result in an optimal learning experience for all students. The Supervisor will ensure that all curricular areas K-12 are equipped with a guaranteed and viable curriculum, that all curricular areas are equipped to accurately assess student understanding on an ongoing basis, that students are presented with a personalized approach to education, including data analysis resulting in a diagnostic and prescriptive approach to education, that professional learning effectively addresses faculty and staff needs, and that results are anchored in both student-centered and professional learning outcomes. The Supervisor administers and supervises services within both the general education and special education environments and implements federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to students with disabilities.

Education & Experience requirements: Master’s Degree preferably in leadership/educational administration/curriculum/instruction/ special education or equivalent background. Experience as a School Administrator, preferably in special education and curriculum. Pennsylvania Administrative certification as a Supervisor of Special Education and/or Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction.

Job Description

Position Title: Supervisor, Curriculum & Specialized Instruction

Location: Chancellor Center

Reports to: Director of Special Services, Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Directors of Elementary & Secondary Education and Special Services, the Supervisor, Curriculum & Specialized Instruction provides leadership to ensure that the curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development practices result in an optimal learning experience for all students. The Supervisor will ensure that all curricular areas K-12 are equipped with a guaranteed and viable curriculum, that all curricular areas are equipped to accurately assess student understanding on an ongoing basis, that students are presented with a personalized approach to education, including data analysis resulting in a diagnostic and prescriptive approach to education, that professional learning effectively addresses faculty and staff needs, and that results are anchored in both student-centered and professional learning outcomes. The Supervisor administers and supervises services within both the general education and special education environments and implements federal, state, and local policies and procedures related to students with disabilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Curriculum and Instruction staff to implement and improve special education programming in all school settings.
  • Evaluates and improves teaching methods and classroom strategies for students with disabilities.
  • Adapts and utilizes best practices and specially designed instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Provides guidance and systems of training, coaching and support to ensure that students are provided research-based interventions.
  • Network with additional resources for staff development offerings: Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, PaTTAN, Bucks County Intermediate Unit, etc.
  • Oversees and provides leadership for all ongoing professional development to refine their instructional practices and knowledge to help all students succeed. From workshops to job-embedded learning, staff increase their understanding of best practices.
  • Conducts research to identify curricular models and resources, provide curricular scopes and sequences, and facilitate collaborative teams of administrators and teachers to implement best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including instructional interventions.
  • Leads and conducts a cycle of systematic materials review, support building leaders, and plan and deliver outcomes-oriented professional development.
  • Facilitates and participates in collaborative, systematic curriculum review cycles including the selection of research-based programs, resources, and instructional materials.
  • Leads and collaborates with Curriculum Coordinators and Special Education Supervisors to ensure a standards-aligned curriculum for all core subjects that considers vertical articulation as well as the needs of all students for all grade levels.
  • Ensures curricular materials and instructional materials and intervention materials span the varying levels of student need at all grade levels including general education curriculum and research-based intervention programming.
  • Develops, implements, and assesses an overall District progress monitoring practice to measure individual student academic achievement.
  • Leads, oversees and collaborates with the District’s Technology Integration Specialists in modeling, coaching and supporting teachers with the use of assistive technology to support learning.
  • Develops and implements instructional standards framework to articulate the expectations regarding instructional practices.
  • Conducts classroom observations and shares observation data with building leadership teams
  • Monitors multiple sources of data to analyze trends in student performance to respond with solutions as well as to report results to the Superintendent & Cabinet Team.
  • Collaborates with the Directors of Elementary & Secondary Education and Special Services to develop a system for effective and strategic professional learning opportunities for all levels of staff.
  • Provides leadership in a number of district level committees including Education Committee, Comprehensive Planning, Special Education Plan, Supervision and Evaluation, and CR’s leadership team.
  • Leads and chairs groups, ad hoc committees, task forces, etc., comprised of administrators, community members, teachers, staff, students, Board members, etc.
  • Seeks continuous improvement of own knowledge base and practice in the area of curriculum development, teaching, and learning.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the evaluation of teaching staff and collaborates with administrative staff in developing and implementing a program of teacher evaluation in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Provide reports, prepare documents, and attend meetings related to student growth and achievement.
  • Collaborates with principals, special education supervisors, school-based teams, and central office administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Master’s Degree preferably in leadership/educational administration/curriculum/ instruction/ special education or equivalent background.
  • Experience as a School Administrator, preferably in special education and curriculum.
  • Pennsylvania Administrative certification as a Supervisor of Special Education and/or Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Extensive knowledge of IDEA, PA Chapter 14, curriculum, teaching, learning and specialized instruction as well as of best practices for the delivery of professional learning.
  • Knowledge of all curricular areas’ state and nationally recognized standards to develop rigorous programs of study for students in kindergarten through twelfth grades.

Qualifications

  • Certificate as a Supervisor of Special Education or Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction (both preferred).
  • Prior experience related to special education curriculum and programming, experience with facilitating and designing ongoing imbedded professional development for special education teachers, general education teachers, and support staff.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws and mandates regarding Special Education and Curriculum standards.
  • Experience in documenting, recording data regarding instructional practices, and prescribing interventions in a tiered level of support.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for the instructional and non-instructional leadership of staff and students.
